Rocky Mountain 1000 Day: US Team Sprint

tdgood

1. I was the last starter with lots of gaps of people in front of me. There was one person who started 30 seconds in front of me but a 3.5 minute gap before him. Needless to say, there wasn't a steady stream of people to pass. Started off slow to make sure I didn't make a mistake.
2. Stayed to high and climbed down the rocks. Cut through the tip of the aspens and contoured to the control.
3. +00:05Ended up to low and had to run up the reentrant to the control.
4. Cut around the rocks to the right. fought my way through the trees and up to the hill.
5. Run to the rock.
6. +02:30First of the rocky ones. I made sure I was reading carefully. Past the two boulders in the field. Then I apparently ran off th wrong direction. instead of turning right around the rocks I kept running straight the the next sect of rocks by the number 6 number and started looking in the wrong spot. Clearly I wasn't in the right area but was having a really tough time matching things up. Finally realized what I had done and ran, hesitantly to the control.
7. +04:00I screwed this up royally. I decided I would go right around all the rock which was clearly a dumb thing to do. I ran around to the right and hit another aspen grove east of number 7. I spent a while looking around it. Fianlly had to go out to the trail to relocate. Saw people coming out of seven and followed them back.
8. At this point I stopped running hard. Tried to keep moving but the sprint was shot in terms of points. Contoured a little but mostly straight to it.
9. Straight
10. +00:10Went to the right to avoid some climb. It was a long way around the hill so I think straighter over the top would have been better.
11. straight
12. straight
F. +00:08Easy jog in
