2. | Through the flooded trail, then was a tad low approaching the control (visibility not so good right there, and I almost didn't see the cliff.
3. | Dumb. Stayed a bit to the right (north of the small lake) and picked up the indistinct trail near the big lake... but maybe I was really on some other unmapped trail, because I hit the big trail a ways north of where I should have been. Better move would have been to back out of #2 to the south and take the big trails around, rather than fighting through the greenbriar.
4. | Over the top of the bare rock hill, just south of #6.

7. | Around on trails to the east.
8. | Around on trails to the west, which was smart, but miscounted junctions at the end, which was not. Left the trail too early, and saw a couple of other people looking confused. The contours didn't look right to me. Then one of the others spotted the control sort of behind me and to the right. I went to it, and as I was about to punch noticed that it was #9 (the only code I checked in the whole race). Felt stupid, but at least I knew where I was, and went to #8 with no problem.
9. | Better not screw this one up.
10. | Was expecting the control to be on the cliff, so I went to the base of it, wondering why there were peopl eup top. When I saw no flag, I checked the code and saw that it was on the bare rock.
F. | Straight south to hit the trail as early as possible, then NW out to the parking lot. Gained on all of the other people, I think (passed all but one of them). |
