9. Thumb compass slipped going into 8 about 2 centmeters to the right so it was lined up with the route from control circle 9 to 10. Consequently proceeded to 10 without noticing (I did notice a drift but just chocked it up to moving around the fissures). Didn't notice I had skipped 9 until I punched 14; only noticed the problem by seeing that there were only 13 splits on my watch and then running my finger up and down my punch card to see which box hadn't been punched. Considered what to do for about 20 seconds (i.e. mp or go back to 9-14). I did the honorable thing (or perhaps stupid thing) and went back through all of the controls again. Had a few problems attacking 9 after attacking it after coming back from 14.
10. Tried to make the best of everything and just enjoy the woods. Not trying that hard, but I've already been to everything so splits aren't too bad from here through 14. About a 70-75% effort from here on out. Saving everything for Sunday.

17. Got a little competitive again. Tried to break away from a cadet who was following me and ended up making a big parallel error instead--go figure. Ended up on hillside directly E/SE of 16. Still trying to stay positive and enjoy the woods, but pretty discouraged nonetheless. Just jogging in from this point.
