Race Evaluation

Flying Pig X (OCIN): Classic-Red

bishop22

1. +00:30Drifted too far left after I left the trail.
2. Straight.
3. +00:10Started to contour around the spur, then decided to drop down near the water to the creek and then up the hill to the main trail. Cut into the woods just a bit later than I could have.
4. Up and over the spur, before climbing the ditch.
5. +01:00Too much walking and hesitating early in this leg - went down left of the line, did the climb to the trail and cut off where I could see the inlet, and landed just about right on the control.
6. +01:00Back to the trail to stay left of all of the contours, then attacked on a bearing, much too slowly, from the trail junction. Running hard to the fences and aiming right of the flag from there would have made this a much quicker leg.
7. +00:30Angled right to the trail and took it as long as possible. Saw a depressed Nate on the trail. Spent too much time looking at the map and not enough time running.
8. +00:30Started right of the line, then down near the stream in a spot I liked. Eventually hit the path near the stream fork, and climbed the spur (too far left at first, hit some dark green beofre correcting).
9. Straight.
10. +11:00This leg turned an decent run (given the state of my legs) into a disaster. A couple of guys punched near me, so I took the run-south-fast approach at the start of this leg. I had drifted right, so the fences weren't making sense as I got to them. Instead of relocating at one of the fences, I pushed on and found water that I thought was the stream leading to the control, but where it ended, the terrain got very green, not white. I did not recognize that I was at the ditch 150m SW of the control. After several minutes of not being able to figure out the fences I was hitting as I travelled ESE, I heard a car on the road, and bailed the remaining 300m to the road, where it became a long easy-in, easy-out.
11. Confidence lost from the previous leg, and I felt like doing some running after all of the stop and go, so I angled right for the trail, and took it all the way to the trail that led me back to the line, and followed the line to the bag. Punched just before someone else.
12. The two mapped marshes near 11&12 were connected by more marsh, but it was easy running, and I aimed just slightly right, so I could see the contours that provided easy access to the bag. The other guy was right with me.
13. Was in a hurry to get out, so I was on a rough bearing at first, but it turned out to be perfect when I slowed to make it better, and I ran straight into the bag, while the other guy had drifted left.
14. Was in a hurry to get away, so I didn't notice the clearing that may have been faster, and just went straight - hustling since it was a can't-miss control.
15. +01:00I guess I don't like following fence lines and it hurt me here, since I didn't know I had drifted too far right when I reached the road. I went into the woods and saw a woman running right and started in that direction before I realized she had been leaving the control.
16. +00:30Eventually got the proper angle to follow the opening around to the control.
17. Straight, just slow.
18. Couldn't kick it into a higher gear down the road.
F. No legs left for a sprint.
