1. | Ran and ran. Followed large group including Peggy and Peter, right side of marsh then swamp then in.
2. | Followed Peter out of 1. Lots of people around, used contours.
3. | I stayed to the left of the bumpy hill, ran down to the pit. Lots of people piled up at control, so no need for fine navigation.
4. | Straight shot down and around cliff. Decided to skip 5.
5. | Skipped. Then remembered it was Marks control and he told me not to skip it. I figured he would understand.
6. | A little hesitation popping off the trail, kept the fence in line but again, not doing any precision work yet.
7. | Pavlina was motoring in the direction I wanted to go.
8. | I navigated from open area to open area.
9. |
Tired | Pavlina and another guy crossed at the river, and so did I. It was deeper than I thought. Trail run. I saw Mark Dominie walking up and I thought that was a good idea, so I walked too. Collected features on in.
10. | Angled on a bearing, saw boulders and cliff.
11. | Went right around the swamp.
12. |
Hesitated | Trail run left then right. Tried to cut a corner then got a little confused on the trail. Then focussed on the river, crossed marsh, turned south, looked for spur. Almost over ran it.
13. | Back to trail, avoided green, climbed hill to edge of hill feature.
14. | Ran to fence, along it, turned right up and in.
15. | Ran down hill, a little off map across stream onto trail. Saw JJ. Ran behind JJ for a while, took the right fork and scooped up the hill.
16. | Back around, got sucked back to the trail, picked my way up from the fence. I wasn't getting all of my splits and this one may be wrong.
17. |
Not thinking clearly | Picked way back down the hill. Looked for a control circle in the line break for a while until some runner comment from Mark Dominie startled me out of my short circuit. I realized the control was on the other side of the lake. I thought Mark and his friend had a good plan so I jogged with them, left around the lake, cut the corner to avoid contours. BIG cliff.
18. | Big re-entrant features, easy to see. Read the re-entrant detail on the hillside.
19. | Jogged to trail, deja-vu on route to #1. Failsafe attack point from intersection of stream with trail. I didn't see the stone fences very well so I didn't use them.
20. | Trail run to 20, a bit slow going down the hill to the swamp. Didn't notice any charcoal terraces but the control code was right.
21. |
Tired | Feeling my feet and I'm very thirsty. Pick my way around the side of the swamp. See some other people, but I'm not sure what their plan is so I hold my own counsel.
22. |
Tired | North to trail, run along stone fence to trail, watch vegetation boundaries. Happy for an easy one. I see some runners bound off to the left (west) before the trail. I spend worthless cpu (but not much time) wondering what they are doing.
23. | Run around the lake, remember the control is at the top of the cliff so I stay high. Happy to be almost done.
F. |
Hesitated | I almost fall on my face when I hit the trail, but the adrenaline keeps me on my feet. I'm a little confused at the last junction but I choose one and run in. It was a fine choice. |
