1. | Off to wrong field corner, and therefore behind the others and struggling already
2. | Getting closer, but breathing like a draft horse
3. | Confident on this one, as it was right next to my campsite, but still last in my group
4. | Easy to see that the trail left is the best route here, but trying to hang on followed the gang to the right and around. Went about 5 m. past on the right, and looked left to see it. George missed it by a bit more.
5. | David is in sight, but a bit too far ahead to follow.
6. | Wasted a bit of time following the trail around from the small building in the clearing to the trail stub by the rock. Otherwise OK.
7. | Picked up David in the distance and pressed on without reading the map very carefully. As he pulled up to read the map, realized I too was mislocated. After a while the next group came up, including Tim Good. Tim and I headed up to the left at about the same time and found it. David came by a few seconds later and said, "Did you check the code?" Of course not!
8. | Zoomed in here on the tail end of a train, and pulled up short when I saw the code was 41 instead of the 38 I expected. Check the clue sheet. OK
9. | Followed the crowd, losing ground to faster runners along the road. Cut in near the knoll and up the spur to a flag on a boulder. #54. George was there as well, and had apparently passed me during my sojourn at #7. I figured it out because of the hill between me and the road to the E, and no further problem
F. | Run like hell, 2nd place in my group and advance to the A group. |
