33rd Annual Blue Hills: Traverse
walk
| 1. | Followed pack, saw Peter way right searching but much too early. | ||||||
| 2. | Looked at map and headed to small trail R to avoid rocky area. Then didn't see small stream on map and came up short on big trail. Headed up following big crowd but not sure until saw bag. | ||||||
| 3. | To trail, cut corner to major intersection, L then over small hill crossed marsh and contour around as Peter came in from R and Bob L in from L. | ||||||
| 4. | Around lake to R then trails, cutting final corner but too soon and watched Charlie and Bob go by on trail but still think may have punched 1st. | ||||||
| 5. | Trail junction, trail to bend and in. | ||||||
| 6. | Big error - went Leftish from rest of pack who went off way R, then down some cliffs. Thought they were cliffs on way but were actually under circle. At bottom swung R contouring along thru various reentrants, cliffs and rocky grd areas watching all sorts do same. Most were heading further up which seemed wrong. Finally hit trail W and fixed location -so down 100m and in as pack started to also converge. Punch just after Sam and before Leif. | ||||||
| 7. | Followed Leif and Sam on straightish line. | ||||||
| 8. | Trail to junction, in but slightly R then corrected to only visible hill as pack (had gone straight in) all passed in front. | ||||||
| 9. | To trail and along with Charlie. Cut corner and got in before him. | ||||||
| 10. | gas line thinking bag was on same side of road. Charlie was on road about same place and we jogged along. | ||||||
| 11. | Ken's heading past table to 13 as I grab a fig newton. | ||||||

| 13. | Road to junction and in, now with pack of Pav, Charlie, Neil and Sam. | ||||||
| 14. | R to trail junction with Pav, others seemed to have climbed straight up but we all wound up going R. Sam and Neil went up and over, Pav and Charlie and I headed around. I went in just after small hill on R, to stone wall (meeting Charlie) trail crossing seeing Neil/Sam just ahead but going too far L. We head on bearing but a bit L, correct when see Pav punch. | ||||||
| 15. | Trails to just below bag and climbed up as Pav, Sam punched (having gone more straight, keeping height). | ||||||
| 16. | To road bend, climb with Pav, Sam, Neil to R. Was slightly L and saw it just as Sam ran towards it. | ||||||
| 17. | Straight thru greenish pines, blueberries behind Sam and Pav. Tumbled just before upper cliff and almost again heading to lower. | ||||||
| 18. | Followed Pav straight to road through intense brambles!!! Read map and go around. First error following | ||||||
| 19. | Second error following - went across on direct route just behind Pav not noticing the many brown lines until half way up and seeing more cliffs up. Muttered something about Stupid! Pav agreed but too late. I was looking to L route adn didn't see R route until after or would have been very upset. | ||||||
| 20. | Up reentrant and in. | ||||||
| 21. | Line compass up with 21 to 22 and nothing looked right leaving 20. Stopped and pack all went by. Got to trail finally but they were long gone. Ran out of energy about here and couldn't pick it up to catch them. Besides they were smelling the finish and off. | ||||||
| 22. | Straight, found indistinct trail in woods. Later saw on map. Trail not maintained and several trees across it. | ||||||

| F. | Checked map/compass after punching and headed to Finish. Nice course and overall a fun run. Good job Saeger and NEOC. |
