Race Evaluation

33rd Annual Blue Hills: Traverse

PG

1. +00:20 Routes/comments. People everywhere. Stopped short, perhaps because I thought the map was 1:10,000?
2.
3. +00:40Started working a little harder, but blew it coming off the hilltop, too far left. Seemed a lot of people around.
4. Caught up to and eventually passed Scott Turner. More lonely from here on.
5. +00:45Caught up to Phil as we both missed it to the right. I had a feeling where it was and recovered a bit quicker.
6. Nailed this one nicely, past the cross rentrant then just below two little knolls. All alone now.
7. No problems, again seemed a long ways.
8. +00:20Could have used someone ahead of me here -- hit the knoll right on, but the control was down the north slope just out of sight, and it took a bit of thinking before I ventured down to have a look.
9.
10. Joe and Ernst were heading up the road to 13. I figured they had about 5 minutes on me. Not so bad...
11. Timed ths one just right, as Jim Pugh, Jon Campbell, and Doug Gosling were about a minute ahead and showed me where both 11 and 12 were.
12.
13. Hustling, trying to catch them, got just close enough to spot them as they reached the control. Looked like Jim and Doug were going left to 14, Jon to the right.
14. +01:00I'd already planned to head right. Caught Jon by the trail, but we both missed the control (too low), by the time we climbed back up, Jim and Doug were arriving. They'd actually gone over the top.
15. Just behind Jon, even though we took different routes.
16. Just ahead of Jon. He went straighter, I went straight out to the road.
17. First in, last out -- got all tangled up in the briars on the way back to the road.
18. +01:00Jon and Doug went left, were ahead by 30-45 seconds, plus I had to retie a shoe....
19. Took the road to the right. Jon was just in sight for a bit, but that was the last I saw of him. Had Jim on my tail, but he was dying (he'd run a marathon last week). On my own the rest of the way.
20.
21. Decent pace the rest of the way, but would have interesting if I'd had any company to see how much I had left in the tank.
22.
23.
F. Spiked the finish (which some people seemed to have had trouble doing!).
