Race Evaluation

US Sprint/Middle/Long Championships: Red Middle

Nadim

1. I hadn't been to the model so I felt inclined to play it safe. I used the trails. They were slow and sandy but not bad to follow. The trails were flatter too so I think it was the best route.
2. I climbed and used the intermittant trail. Running felt like 1:5,000 not 1:10,000. Unsure, I checked it as I ran. I had to go deep enough in the reentrant to see the control.
3. +00:10I went around on the trails. Though I had intended to cut off some, I was at the main intersection before I knew it. I climbed the knoll and was surprised that it was at the bottom of it.
4. I went straight through the gap in the greens and got my feet wet.
5. +00:10I went straight to the main trail intersection, then turned left. After gettting around the green marsh, I had to come back slightly. I should have gone straight through the intersection and on the right side of the marsh for a shorter approach. I saw Andy Strat on the Blue course do this.
6. Turning control-up the trail and right.
7. I paralleled the trail to the right, then cut right to go around the first green marsh. I went left around the next and along the bottom of the hillside to and over the ridge to the control.
8. +00:10Left side of the green and to the spur. I stopped on the spur when i coulldn't see it. After going farther I found it behind a bush.
9. Straight
10. Straight
11. on the slow sandy trail tothe right, and in.
12. Back to the road to get around the green. Keying the intersection ahead, I cut in early.
13. Around the green on the right side. I was initiallyh expecting the feature to be a spur but later realized it was a reentrant as I read my way in.
14. +00:20I went left out of #13, then into the reentrant after the green and the depression. I somehow drifted more left and started having difficulty matching things up. Fortunately I saw a control and found it to be my #20. I used this as an attack point to hit the control well.
15. +01:30I went left around both ponds, then up over the curved ridge to go in between the greens at the bottom. It was easy from there to get to the right ridge. However, a second look at the map had me thinking I was about to make an error. In this mind, I went to the wrong side of the ridge with the control, then got past it. I relocated at a thin pond from there and came back to the correct ridge.
16. I ran pretty much straight at it and hit it while checking off things along the way.
17. I went on the right side of the pond, over the hill and in.
18. I started to go straight but caught myself quickly to go on the left side of the pond. I followed the green from there, to the control.
19. I used the edges of the green spurs to guide me there. I caught and passed a woman along the way.
20. I went along the left side of the hill to contour in.
21. I was a bit left and expecting it to be lower.
F. Flopping down the sand and in.
