Rocky Mountain 1000 Day: Prologue

Nadim

1. I started after Mike Ball and Sam Listwak. Boris Granovskiy started 30 seconds behind. I went left of the line. Mike was cautious so he got there just before Sam, me and Boris.
2. I chased Mike and Sam across the marsh and they let me and Boris pass going up. In the clearing Boris passed and began pulling away as he lead up across the field and road through the saddle.
3. +00:15Boris seemed to go over the rocks and another guy went around to the right. I followed Boris’ route. I must have gone too wide and got there well behind the other guy who went right.
4. Crossing the field I lost sight of Boris. At the road I paused to check my bearing and the reentrant ahead. I saw the control from there and scampered up the left side of the reentrant mostly, for better running.
5. I just went straight mostly. An elephant trail lead to the rocks and it was an easy from there. Boris was briefly visible headed to #6 as I got there.
6. I went left through the saddle and back around to the right where people were exiting.
7. A crowd of about 4 others were all scampering to #7. I stayed left to avoid climb and ignored detail by using the contours. I went to the big cliff, then the big rock before cutting right to the control. I made-up ground catching Dimitry.
8. Dimitry lead left of the line on the unmapped or elephant trail I dropped too low staying with the trail as Dimitry took a better line.
9. +01:00Chasing Dimitry, I thought we were a bit too far left. We passed the control and hunted rocks. I realized it, saw it almost immediately as I went back 50-60m ahead of Dimitry.
10. +01:00I contoured around to the ridge then cut through the rocks. Feeling confident with a reentrant control instead of rocks, cut right. Seeing on the map two parallel reentrants ahead, I cut left but went too far. Not seeing the control, I kept going over knee deep junipers before going right and back up the right reentrant. Just as I got there, Erin Olafsen and George Walker had just punched.
11. I passed George and got to the control in a question mark shaped route, going around the rock on the right side.
12. +00:30George was just behind me and headed out before I did. This drew me left initially. I corrected and plunged down the hill to the marsh and rocks. My line wasn’t good and I climbed a contour too high before I saw the control to my right.
F. Straight.
