Race Evaluation

QOC Hemlock Overlook: Blue

cmpbllv

1. P D P R 3 +02:30According to QR, I was on top of this when I turned down to the rootstock. Apparently QOC maps have green rootstocks...I had read the X on the map as a brown one. Turns out it was black, marking a coil of wire on the ground maybe 12" high. Grrrr...
2. P D P R 3 +01:00Not executed quite as I'd intended. Wasn't sure where I came down to the creek, thought I was a bit further along. Got a good bit off the line getting around the vegetation, but relocated off the large structure at the top and picked up speed down the spur. The last bit down the end was very steep, had to slide down it. Crazy.
3. P D P R 3 +01:30The map didn't feel right here. Went out to the river and ended up having to walk through it a bit before popping up to the old wagon trail up top that was decent running. Really hit or miss when details like this aren't mapped.
4. P D P R 4 +02:00Got a bit to the right of the line on the way up, but luckily saw the tip of the clearing and corrected. Generally hesitant. Thankfully recognized where I was on the final approach and that the reentrant I was looking at was facing the wrong direction to be mine, easy correction. Easy to go the wrong way on this map.
5. P D P R 4 +01:00Pretty happy with execution, just slow and hesitant. Had trouble making sense of the map coming up the big hill (area that gave me trouble all day), red spot on QR shows where I stopped to check things out before proceeding. Just not making sense...even when I was right on the line.
6. P D P R 3 Finally, a leg with some flow. Effective reading of terrain, saw the ditch to my left and confirmed my position as I came off the middle spur - was a bit worried I'd gone too high and was about to make a parallel error. Faster split.
7. P D P R 2 +00:45Trail run. Got too far right of the line on my way to the trail and lost some time. Better picture would have been an easy fix.
8. P D P R 3 My best split - 85, 4th fastest. Ran the line, reading the reentrant to the right.
9. P D P R 4 +07:00I was100m shy of the control when I decided that the creek bent right and went up the reentrant that had confused me earlier on the way to 5. Pace count would have helped here, although not really in touch to have had a good place to be counting from.
10. P D P R 3 +01:00Went up (and over) the wrong spur. This area made absolutely no sense to me. Lucky I saw others headed into the control.
11. P D P R 3 +02:00Could not read the rides, trails, and stuff that was on the ground but not mapped in this area. Almost way overshot the control, but caught myself and came back. Too far right, and suckered by the ride that was supposed to end and instead blended into the trail. Argh! No water, which was a bummer.
12. P D P R 4 Slow and steady. Got some water from another runner here, as this was also empty.
13. P D P R 3 In touch, careful reading of contours.
14. P D P R 3 Along the line, read the cairns.
15. P D P R 4 +10:00Hit another unmapped ride, took it for a bit and made a parallel error in where I was and where I needed to go, found a parallel ditch that was cut enough to be a streambed...utter disaster, and coming up on 1500. Finally bailed north, eventually catching the trail in a familar spot and relocating. Ridiculous, so close to a good leg on this.
16. P D P R Stomped off straight-lining, didn't bother with the trail. Ironically, a decent choice.
F. P D P R Raced some other guy in.
