13. Crossed a narrow marsh that was more than knee deep. After that I met Phil Bricker again, and split off from him due to an incomprehensible map reading and route choice error.

21. Leaving 20, Steve Tarry and I were leading a large train. To be more accurate, I was roughly even with Steve and the train was wisely paying more attention to him. I got into some more difficult stuff going down the hill, and when reaching the road the bunch was down to 5 or so. Phil Bricker was ahead of me and continued on the road, while I led a couple of others across the marsh. That route worked fine for me, and I arrived at 21 just after Valeriy Doverov.
22. Why navigate when there's a pack ahead of you which includes several better navigators than oneself? I caught Steve Tarry on this leg, looked at my map a bit and was able to reach the punch first.
23. Unfortunately it took me a few seconds to get my map straight, and by then a half dozen from the pack had passed me. With some effort I caught up to all but a couple of leaders. In front Charlie DeWeese was pushing hard and pulling away.
F. Passed by a couple of young runners.
