1. | P | D | P | R | 2 | Ran up the trail a bit, then cut over to the road, up to the second trail and cut across, attacked off the trail bend and rootstock. Easy enough, but probably straighter would have been better.
2. | P | D | P | R | 5 | Not happy to see this long leg...I'd vetted this control, but from much a much closer known point. Decided to take the trail, attack off the bend before the bridge, come down the power lines and attack off the last marked pole, reading terrain on the way in. Worked just fine - yay for a good long leg!
3. | P | D | P | R | 4 | Compass and pace leg. Did not see the rootstock at speed.
4. | P | D | P | R | 3 | I was a bit left here, but knew I'd gone the distance and that I should be checking the features I was seeing to the right, caught sight of the reentrant and knew where I was.
5. | P | D | P | R | 5 | Wanted to come in off the power pole as I had during vetting, did so pretty well. Was a bit further right than I was vetting.
6. | P | D | P | R | 4 | +00:35 | AP error is partly due to drinking water, but I was left, which resulted in coming into the reentrant to the NW before finding 6, so some error is justified. Never saw the vegetation boundary. |
7. | P | D | P | R | 4 | Compass and pace, reading terrain a bit as well. Came up the reentrant to the right.
8. | P | D | P | R | 5 | +00:38 | Came out just below the power pole,but didn't adjust azimuth well and ended up a bit high. |
9. | P | D | P | R | 5 | Almost slowed up at 300m, then realized that I hadn't gone far enough and pressed on. Tried to be heads up, but didn't see the swamp. Probably got lucky here, had to turn a bit to the left.
10. | P | D | P | R | 5 | Found this easily enough, although having a good picture from the map was hard.
11. | P | D | P | R | 5 | +10:30 | Knew this was a dangerous one. Tried to read the contours as I went, and thought I was in touch until I hit my distance and saw no control. I think I was high and left. Decided to push forward to the cut, came out on top of a power pole, and tried attacking in off of that. Felt like a patch of vegetation I was seeing was the green slash, but I think it was something unmapped. When I attacked from the pole and the vegetation was too nice, though I was too far below and turned right. Came out quickly to the trail, oops...attacked back in off the bridge and still nearly missed the control. Just thick in there. Saw Amy on the way out. |
12. | P | D | P | R | 4 | +03:00 | Dang - came right down that reentrant with the nice running, but hit it further right than I expected. Though I'd corrected, came north, glanced at the reentrant and was sure it wasn't mine and turned right...200m later, knew I was in the next BIG reentrant over and had to turn around. Bah! |
13. | P | D | P | R | 4 | Well, since I'd already covered this ground...ended up further to the right and didn't see the medium green as I had while vetting. Did recognize the shape of the reentrant (I was right again) and turned to run up it to the control.
14. | P | D | P | R | 3 | Took a moment to have a good picture, ran this one fast and with confidence. Should do this more often!
15. | P | D | P | R | 3 | Again, good picture and read the terrain well. Caught myself drifting right towards the reentrant, looked left and saw the control.
16. | P | D | P | R | 3 | Bam. | |
17. | P | D | P | R | 5 | Came out a bit right to the road, ran the trail across the bridge, then followed the power lines to the road and used that to attack in. Read the map wrong about what pole I was attacking from and came out at the water pit. Adjusted well, having spent some time vetting this particular control.
18. | P | D | P | R | 2 | Ok, didn't really have a plan here. Just went to the road. And then straight across, but caught the trail to the ... right! Forced myself to just keep running until I saw it.
19. | P | D | P | R | 3 | Cut across to the trail, ran to the reentrant, ran down the far side, easy enough.
F. | P | D | P | R | 3 | Not sure why I was so fast here - good picture, I guess. Up the right fork of the reentrant, ran a bit towards the restrooms and came at it from the left. |
