Race Evaluation

2008 Laramie Daze & US Champs: US Champs: GreenX Day 2

2. +00:45Looked like trouble from the start as it had no clear attack point to me. Btw I am color blind and the light green used for the aspens appears like light yellow to me. So I cannot use it to navigate by except when I run into the aspens and then stop and stare real hard at the map to differentiate the different shade of color on the map. I ran too E of the line but sensed my error and luckily my sense was correct and it did not turn into a disaster.
3. +00:15I started to go S around the aspens but it looked clear thru them so headed straight instead thru the elbow. Able to read the knolls prior to control but missed nailing the control as it was hard to tell which rock formation was a cliff and checked out a few boulders just N of the flag.
4. I headed way right of the line to avoid the 2 strips of green and swamps. In retrospect probably faster to go straighter but my time was still pretty good.

10. Swung a little too right of line but easily corrected. This flat open terrain allows for fast running but I can feel it is hard to read the map as well.

12. +00:15Running too hard and not staying on the straighest path. Hit hill too left of control.
13. +00:10Hard to read where saddle is. I thought I hit it but when I go over the top I see I am 100m SW of it, but I see the control point.
14. +00:15Now starts the sprint-O. Just head out and check out flag 100m to the NE before checking cntrl desc and then head to the knoll.

16. +00:20Seems everyone had a problem with this one. I checked out the large boulders NW of control 1st. My HR is pretty much maxed out and hard to think. I feel panic creeping in! I stop and look around and see a brown runner heading out from behind a big boulder towards the finish area and guess correctly that is where #16 is.
17.
F. Run very hard since you never know if a second or two could make the difference. HR reaches a high point I have not seen in many years!
