Race Evaluation

2002 Billygoat Run:

ken

1. an early skip and a fast pace on the road helped escape most of the posse.
2. took the road pretty much all the way to #2
3. straight-ish, william and I are starting to get away from boris and matthias
4. up the trail right of the line then back across the top and straight down.
5. all kinds of shooting going on today. will is a bit ahead of me.
6. running sortof the right direction after will, collected myself on the first of the ponds.
7. out left and around the marsh; in retrospect, you could have run straight through it without any trouble. pretty much on the line going up the hill into it. will running away with his crazy hill-power. that was the last I ever saw of him or anyone else.
8. down the reentrant
9. went a little bit too much north coming out, and then took the low trail into it. quite a bit of hesitation of this one. went right past 15. saw what I thought was a wolf running away across my path into the control, maybe it was a big grey fox instead. it was running really fast up the hill anyways.
10. straight to the trail and then along the little one
11. in the trail to the refreshment control. lost some time getting out my fig newtons and drinking gatorade. (probably just as much ended up on my face)
12. I went around to the west from the end of the parking lot. didn't want anyone to see me if they were coming into 11.
13. on the trail, then up the stream a bit. not sure why I was slower than some on this one.
14. on the trail south of the lake, then around all the way as long as I could go on the trail. at this point realizing "there's not much course left"
15. a bit right of the line and back in on the spur
16. knowing that this was the other obvious skip, I was thinking I just had to get through this one without the posse catching back up. took the little trail, then to the wall jct and in. I had lost my clue sheet much earlier, (and not finding the one on the map) had to mostly guess what the actual feature was at the center of the circle. luckily it was mostly fast running all the way there.
17. out west onto the trail, but I followed it a bit too long and could see the lake and the first building before I turned south. but then I just came in from the north. no sign of anyone else, I guess that's good.
18. on the trail, almost ran straight at the first jct.
19. down the stream, then over the spur to pick up the trail on the other side of the road.
F. into the finish about 10 minutes earlier than I expected, and no sign of anyone else! a good run on a fun course. I guess I missed out on some of the excitement since I was by myself most of the time. and believe me, we would have liked to stay for the awards, but geez guys, thanks for your "understanding"
