Boulder Dash 2007: Red Day 1

dyee

1. +00:30Straight-forward. Trail to N end of marsh. Wasted a bit of time checking out the Boulder to the west of my cliff, then traversed around to bag the control. Woods were thicker than I expected.
2. +10:00Leaving 1, I took a bearing from 2-> 3 (Gaak!). Parallel features took me across a stream and then into dark green. Relocated by going back up to bend in stream, then into 2
3. Drifted right, caught end of stone wall, crossed stream, and headed down to control. Was higher than I expected.
4. Attempted a straight shot, but drifted right again. Caught by the boulders, then into the control.
5. Out to trail. Was going to attack from trail junction, but never saw it. Caught by stream crossing, and attacked from there.
6. Explored the hill to the SW first...
7. Long leg. Took trail option; relieved I could leave the woods for a bit. Took minor trail just after water stop. Misread the contours, and left the trail early. Came back to trail, realized my error and continued on. Attacked from spur and easily bagged the control.
8. Cautious, but easy.
9. Around marsh the the N, up cliff, along trail, attacking at the bend.
10. Meandering route across the marshy reentrants. Terrain was flatter than I expected. Attacked from bit hill to NE of control. Somewhat surprised how hidden the bag was.
11. Slowly picked my way through the terrain,
12. Followed stream system to control.
13. Planned to attack from the big L-shaped cliff. Thought I saw it, but mislead by some other cliff feature that came earlier. Stood standing in thick stuff for awhile, until I noticed the ride and took it NE to control
14.
15. Drifted left. Glad to be nearly done. Ran to rode, saw the finish which seemed way to close for an 80 meter run from the last control. Hesitated, wandered until I realized the bag was on the N end of the feature.
F. Fastest 80 meter run ever into the finish :)
