1. | So Fredrickson was starting 30 seconds after me, and as I was getting ready, he was yelling something, but I wasn't paying attention. Just as I turned my map over and found the triangle, it registered that he was saying, "Go straight, J-J!". So I did. All the way to the control, even when I couldn't figure out what I was seeing on the map. And a second faster than John — so fine!
2. | Blew past Phil by making good time across the edge of the marsh.
3. | Very slight hesitation in the first few steps.
4. | John passes me. | ||||||
5. | Not too far behind John.
6. | John still in sight. | ||||||
7. | My last sighting of John.
8. | Pretty much straight, though I misread the bouncing map and somehow thought I was way off to the left at the bigger knoll. Angled downhill a little, saw the big boulder to my right, and hung a left into the reentrant.

10. | Caught Kathy Bullard on this leg, and noticed that she can really move along pretty fast!
11. | Off a little to the left, stopped at the base of the reentrant, which looked more subtle than I was expecting (i.e. I didn't notice it at first). A little confused because I couldn't find the trail (ride) on the map, but Kathy said, "There it is", and I turned to see it just to my right.

13. | Pursuing some cadets who went the wrong way around the thicket, but I was astute and nailed it.
