San Diego Orienteering present 4 events at the beautiful Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Located about 90 miles east of San Diego, this rugged open desert terrain offers some course options that you won’t find anywhere else in the US. Camping is free at the event, bring water.

Saturday Morning:

Borrego style, which is San Diego Orienteering’s twist on a Goat style race. Traditionally the Borrego races have featured mass starts, longer courses, more climb and other fun twists. The courses will be longer than usual but have elements of fun and the unexpected to test your orienteering skills. 5 and 10 km courses.

Competitors Briefing at 9:45, Mass Start at 10:00, individual starts until 11:00, course closes at 3:00

Saturday Evening:

Night-O Motola Sprint. Experience the desert under the full moon! Bring a headlamp

3 1 km loops. Starts 4:30 to 5:30, course closes at 7:00. If you get lost, head toward the bonfire.

Saturday Night:

Bonfire at the competition center. Bring a chair and some marshmallows.

Sunday Morning:

Traditional white through blue courses, starts at 8:00 to 10:30, course closes at 1:00.

Sunday Afternoon:

Score-O in the famous slot canyon maze area, 60 minutes to be frustrated with the route choices presented by this unique terrain!!

Starts from 1:00 to 2:00, course closes at 3:00

WHERE TO STAY

Camping is available at the site, bring water. Julian, CA and Borrego Springs, CA are nearby, if you would rather not camp. Reserve early, as rooms fill up quick this time of year!

DIRECTIONS

From the West: Take Highway 78 through Julian and go 10.5 miles past the junction with S-3 (Yaqui Pass Road) and 1.5 miles past the junction of Highway 78 with Borrego Springs Road. Look for the brown Buttes Pass and Orienteering signs on the left. Turn off Highway 78 onto the dirt Buttes Pass Road and go 1.6 km (one mile) to the junction and go right 0.7 km (0.4 mi.) to the camping area and Competition Center on the broad saddle.

From the East: Take Highway 78 about 7 miles past Ocotillo Wells and look for the Buttes Pass and Orienteering signs on the right and follow Buttes Pass Road as described above.
