I enjoyed that course. Good double-use of some controls - it typically wasn't until I was upon them that I recognized them, as we would come in from a different direction.

Agreed!

I looked over the map to see that we would be, but didn't really recognize them.

Thanks for the comments. As far as the double use of some controls, I actually didn't put a whole lot of thought into making the approaches different in the 2nd loop, other than making sure that none of the actual legs from the first loop were repeated in the 2nd loop.

As the club has gotten more experience with setting Trail Challenge courses, I think we're learning that one of the keys is to make things really really easy. When we first started, I believe the guideline that we were using was Yellow control placement with Orange route choices. Now we've gravitated to White control placement, with White-to-Yellow route choices, and it seems to be working better. (More people actually racing against others, and hopefully far fewer people wandering around, confused, looking for controls or trying to figure out where they are.)

And that is for the better. I think we confused some people in at least one of our TCs;-)

It's not that the control location have been difficult, but they weren't necc easy either.

I think leaving route choice is a good thing and then anyone who messes up has that on themselves. (where the simplest route might be the longer)

My preferences rank better trails over indistinct or none, flat over climb, dry over wet, and direct over indirect.
