For those of us home this is getting interesting: lots of MPs today.

Lachlan Dow has a big lead at the moment - but lazydave is still out there and has 18 minutes up his sleeve.
W21E is the same - 10 MPs and 6 "DF" which I take to mean Did (not) Finish. Otherwise Mace Neve has had an outstanding run. But the leading "OK" (and cannot be overtaken) is yesterdays winner Jo Allison.
Carnage in M50 with the BigFeet decimated by MPs - undy, Shingo, Simon George, as well as the Victorian favourite Jim Russell. Mike Burton is standing tall at the top though.
Oh. Something funny going on now - most of the M21E MPs have been re-instated, only one left. Dow still leading.
I am thinking that the results aren't correct. Listening to the announcer, he is still saying Hanny is in first.
Yes, now Hanny Allston has been upgraded from MP to OK, and takes the lead from Jo Allison. Still 9 other W21E MPs - will they be re-instated too?
Nearly half the field in all classes is listed as MP. My guess is one of a pair of units at a control is programmed wrong. Or maybe a unit has failed and people are/were manually punching it.
Eddie is correct, there was a unit not working
Not just one; there were about ten units all up not working for the newer SI sticks (all in the far north). However the organisers have taken it a bit far and reinstated a genuine MP in the W21E course.
Having this happen is definitely one of those things I have nightmares about before an event.
I didn't have any controls with the older firmware <5.74 on it to do a test, but I wonder if the read/write process didn't at least write the si-card number to the control and that could be used as verification.
<5.74 doesn't know how to talk to the 10/11/SIAC at all, so I think it doesn't even write a record to the station. We had one control at team trails that slipped by and we credited the couple of people with a 10 for that control.
When the 10/11s first came out I started running every meet I could with one just to find equipment that wasn't upgraded, especially download stations and print out stations.
I wonder because one of the comments was that the SI-11 flashed at each control, but there were 5 controls that weren't upgraded on the course. Would have been interesting to see for sure.
Before an A-meet, I always reprogram the controls, even if not changing numbers, just to be able to look at the log file for firmware and to make sure the controls are really what they are labeled.
The SI stick did flash but really quickly, so I just assumed it didn't work (no flash or beep from the control) since it normally flashes for about five seconds.
The units were programmed as start units!
Confusion about which sticks worked was because the units were progressively replaced, so people had different experiences on the same course.
The units were programmed as start units!
Better that than Clear stations, I guess.
I don't think that was the case because there are a small number of people who have splits at some of those controls.
They were slowly getting replaced during the event... hence why some had split times and some didn't. So not weird.. more just unfortunate that it all happened. The race was still fun though
Was chatting to Ron today and he still couldn't understand why they would beep, but not register, for some sticks but not others. Paul P had four separate trips out to replace controls when the problem was found. Great work from Ron and the gang, thankfully they didn't get many complaints showing how understanding we all can be.
Okay I understand the reasoning for replacing bricks during the event but don't agree with it - everyone should have run under the same circumstances. Those of us who had to manually punch would have lost time on each of those controls, not that my time would have impacted anything.
Looking at splits though, no-one in M21E had splits on any of those controls so looks like all had to manually punch. W21E it looks like anyone starting after 9:54 had just the one split that earlier starters didn't have.
I realise it's only seconds but 5 bricks x 5 seconds (or more since I'm an incompetent puncher) soon adds up, plus I ripped my map on the last one :-( Anyway I agree it was a good event and just unfortunate that this happened. Maybe we should mention it to Scandinavia and see what they propose for our WC event?
