Are you surprised? No running for a bit, then 30k, 6k fast, and 26k... with just cycling in between. How else did you think they were going to react?
Get rolling and stretching, and do some easier shorter runs too, to get the muscles used to the loading a little more gradually/regularly.
Agreed yes, I need to mix it up more. Does terrain orienteering not count though? I was out at Pippingford Park for 106 mins.
Ollie, I've also found compression socks quite helpful both with preventing calf pain and with speeding up recovery afterwards, particularly for high impact sessions (roads, track, high intensity stuff). Might be worth a try if discomfort persists.
Even if you have the fitness I think road running is so repetitive on your legs that it would be better to build up distance gradually, and do build up more fitness doing mix off-road too.
