Bash:
"Where am I?", a documentary on the science of human navigation, will air on CBC TV's The Nature of Things next Thursday night Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. No idea if it's possible to access the show outside of Canada - sorry.

Looks cool!
(should I feel guilty about sitting on a comfy couch and watching TV while many of our friends are going through the rainforest on minimal sleep, underfed and soggy wet?)

Tomcats are comfy, sort of... until you try to move them.

As long as you're sitting on a comfy couch *thinking* about how to get better at finding your way through a soggy rainforest, it's OK.

But it's on up against Sound of Music Live... ummm, never mind.

will this be on a a major network?
I don't believe I get CBC...

Bash:
If you're Canadian, this *is* our major network! (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)

Unfortunately, it looks like even the online past episodes of The Nature of Things are available in Canada only - although some people apparently know how to get around restrictions like that.

I just got back in the house, part way through the show, and my husband informed me that the concensus is that men are better navigators than women. Should I turn in my compass now, or find the show online and draw my own conclusions? ;)

Bash:
Well, I've heard it's also generally accepted that men don't understand science shows as well as women do, so I'm going to watch it this weekend before drawing any conclusions. ;)

I spent 7 years in engineering school so you have to work *really* hard to offend me. :) We PVR'ed it but haven't seen it yet. I will update here.

Watched it online, and then watched the episode about placebos. I knew it, placebos work! In races, I'm always asking the doctors on our team (Revy and Big Fish) to give me a placebo.... Even if they have little m's on them and taste like chocolate.
"Here CO, this one takes away pain in our feet. And this one will make you faster. And be especially careful with this one: it will keep you awake for 6 days".
