Hosting the 2013 Nationals would not have been possible without the help and leadership of Valerie Meyer. We could not (and would not) have hosted the race without hiring her for her SI services. She spent many, many, many hours making all things SI, radio controls, awards, results, WRE points, Route Gadget, etc. etc. possible. Because of her the race had an atmosphere previously never experienced in this part of Canada at a major orienteering race. In short, we think Valerie is awesome and to provide another example of her awesomeness she has asked us to donate part of her fee to the US Junior Fund.

So it is with great pleasure to announce that GHO will be donating $750 CAD to the US Junior Fund later this week. GHO was very happy to see so many US Juniors joining and socializing with our local ARK Attack and ARX athletes at the Saturday Junior Dinner. Thanks to Barb Bryant and Erin Schirm for the dinner idea. We hope that the money can go to good use and look forward to the next opportunity where our juniors can interact.

Another thread discussed how to make A-meets easier to host. Well, from the meet director's perspective, the best way to make things easier is to reduce the stress. And the best way to reduce the meet director's stress is to have a crew you can trust to do things right. A gang that you know can do the job far better than you can do it yourself. My finish crew were the best.

Of course, so were the course planners, controllers, mappers, start crew, registrar, vetters, logistics crew, equipment manager, kids organizers, entertainment gang, work night volunteers, meet day volunteers, .......
all stress free

Thanks, Valerie, for the donation and even more for raising the level of interest in performance and results with your results displays ( and all that goes into making that possible). The results tent allows competitors to congregate to discuss results and feel part of the big picture--just like at the big European events. You are awesome.

Nothing really to add to what has already been said -- I concur with all of it!

GHOSLO: I wish I'd taken the opportunity to buy more copies of the Trail of the Group of Seven book. It is going to to be my family Christmas gift.
Loved Nina's contribution.
Great call out for orienteering in the intro, too.

Glad you liked it Gord. We were really pleased with the job that the publisher did with it. It is gorgeous.

I need to jump in here with some praise and thanks for Valerie and Sandy as well. I've worked with them a few times now and they are such calm pros, we had total faith that they'd be able to fix whatever Mother Nature will come up with (as in the downpour during set-up and take down of course).

Just a super smooth well run major race.

Picture the Gatoraid dump on the coach at the end of the game....
OK?
Now think about the heavy rain that we had just before the Nationals Long. It stopped just before the race but sat on top of Valerie's shelter waiting, waiting, waiting.
Then as she collapsed her tent at the end of the day..
soaker..
