A plug for my local 4-day expedition race that starts tomorrow, Sept 19th...They have had a quieter presence this year, but it's still a great race, it's the only North American expedition race on the ARWS schedule for 2013, and it's still bringing in great talent, local and international.

Their website is not at its most current, but their facebook site is moreso.

To follow the race starting tomorrow, use the given link from their website: http://pinnacletracking.com/live/RaceCenter.aspx?g...

If that direct link doesn't work, start at the page on their website, then link in. http://www.goldrushar.com/events/web-tracking-dire...

As far as APers go, others on here likely know much better, but I know NormalAndrew will be there in a threesome: MAD. They unfortunately lost their female teammate to her work responsibilities.

I spent 14 hours yesterday/night setting the monster trek CPs as well as some Bike 2 CPs (that the teams don't have yet). You can check out my Strava for tracks. CP 25 on Bike 2 will be a challenge (esp. at night). I spent about 20 none Strava tracking mins confirming CP location. Will be fun to see everybody's routes for Bike 2. Trek is make or break for this race, but top 3 positions could get shaken up on the last bike especially because the teams will be planning routes on course!! No Google Maps to aid.

I was atop the highest spot on the course last night around midnight. Breath taking 'views' of the granite walled canyons reflecting the moonshine!!

I am eating breakfast in Strawberry, CA now and plan to get in some MTB miles while checking up on teams and then potentially doing the ropes course (ascent, massive tyrolean, rappel) and doing some hiking with a team or 2.

Last night I watched the top 4 teams transition and this morning places 5 and 6. Their transitions were painful to watch, slow, and every team had someone 'not feeling so hot'. A dude on Sweco slammed a instant meal and 4 FRS drinks and proceeded to puke his guts out!! Sweco left 30 mins in rears to Bones, but may have passed them with their route to CP 11 (took the clear cut / old tramway).

More later if I pony up the $6.95 for wifi. I don't get any 3G here.

from the tracking map, here is how i see things. leaving TA2/CP10, the teams face a 35+ hr trekking section (CPs 11-22) which includes a ropes course at CPs 15-16.

lead "pack": Bones, Sweco, Yogaslackers, Out North.
Bones' tracker doesn't work so we have no idea if they still have a 30-min lead on the race. Sweco has been moving steadily all morning. they chose to use the longer clear cut route to CP11 (mentioned by Tico). Yogaslackers 'schwacked (yogaschwackers??) to CP11 and made great time, but have seemed to struggle on the climb out and Out North caught them. Out North's tracker is not working but GRML posted some FB photos.

no-team's land: Adventureteam.dk
they have passed thru CP11. don't really have any more info.

chase "pack": Walhalla, Committed, Barking Frogs
Walhalla leads the chase pack out of TA down the longer clear cut route to CP11. after what seems to be a lightning-fast TA, Committed is close behind. Barking Frogs may have napped or something in TA because they were stationary for a few hours but now are on the move. too soon to tell which routes those two teams are taking.

everyone else: Torti, Perdidos are still in TA2. MAD will arrive there shortly. Flying Squirrels' last tracker ping was at 0242 so no clue how they are progressing.

And Loving It and Firestarters have been short-coursed. no info on Manny's Krank.

where are you LosDobos???

oops, update, looks like Committed has committed to the 'schwack to CP11. B-Frogs are taking the clear-cut.

Barking Frogs left passport at TA2. Not sure what pentalty will be. I am going to bike it into them. They slept a couple hours in TA2. Perdidos just left TA2 minutes ago and Torti is packing up... Everybody's packs are huge. They are hearing rumors that Bones and Sweco left with 40 hours of food so middle pack teams are taking even more!!

Fire Starters and And Loving It 'short coursed' themselves right at the start. Will be interesting to see what they do during the trek. I noticed And Loving It will climbing gear, but that is at the furthest point out in the trek.

The passport issue was what happened to Team SOLE last year, no penalty issued...

I had the privilege of racing with Firestarters last year. The core of Ray and Carey make for a wonderful experience. They race within their physical boundaries, they go for a challenging experience, and they know how to have a good time. And Ray's van conversion is amazing.
Last year's race was a mess to figure out between the fire and the lost passport. Tecnu didn't get a fair chance to show how they could rebound from a tough start, I think. The wildfire didn't let them. Too many ifs. If I remember correctly, Sole got lost a bit in the canyon, alongside the fire. Tecnu may not have made a similar error and then would have caught up or passed them.
Oh, and shout out to the commanding finish of Vidaraid that year. They were awesome.

hola APes!

The last 4 of races I've been posting on Breathe (thanks for pointing peeps in the right direction Bash), and we've partnered with the races to also have our feed on their live sites for the last 2 (XPD and GRML). But I miss AP, so I'll make it a point to put some post excerpts with links on here for the ARWC and going forward.
XPD was epic for me in that the 13.5 hour time difference really had me fubared for the better part of a week and a half. Also, ended up with over 400 posts for that one.

We're working out the details of our ARWC coverage...details as I get them.

Cheers
