I don't think I've ever seen 820m of climb listed for any Blue course before, or even a Billygoat. I thought maybe it was an April Fool joke. (Glad I'm not running Blue!)

No foolin' Yellowwood is steep. Bring your Pig wings.

Not counting Rogaines, Highlanders, and Long-Os, the most climb I've ever had on a course is 775m for the 12.3 km Blue at Lake George CO on 7/2/95. (There was a Team Trials Blue also at Lake George in 1991 that had 870m, but it was 15.2 km, so that's kind of in Long-O territory.) The total number of courses I have run with listed climb values over 800m is seven, of which four were Highlanders (out of 1242 courses total, about 730 of which had climb values listed).

Impressive amount of climb, indeed.
This much climb for the course about this long, besides Lake George CO 1995, I recall from back in 1988, @ a regional intercollegiate event here

Yellowwood does seem like an impressively dissected place. Will anyone break 40 minutes on the middle the next day if they have to contend with 6%+ climb?

Does anyone who's been in Bloomington know if the yarn-bombed trees are still decorated? An article printed last fall said they'd be up until spring:

You must not have run much in California, although many BAOC course setters would do their best to conceal the true climb, or just conveniently forget to measure it.

In accordance with OUSA rule A.29.11, below, the event packet will reflect that the time limit for the Saturday Long courses will be 3.5 hours.

A.29.11
All competitors shall be given equal amounts of competition time to complete their courses. Unless a longer or shorter time is declared in the Meet Information the competition time limit shall be as specified in these rules for each format. Competitors completing a course in a time greater than the competition time limit shall be recorded as overtime (OVT) and shall not receive a time or place.

Well, that is true. Fifteen courses in California, one of which was a score-O. Of the others, one was 18.3 km with 800m, one was 11.7 km with 420m, and the rest were all 375m or less. The only place I've ever run in the Bay Area proper is Annadel.

yarn-bombed trees

I misread that as "yam-bombed trees", and was rather puzzled...

Probably black yarn now - the Hoosiers did not make it to the Final Four.

A jpg file of the model event map which may be printed or viewed on your mobile device may be found at Model Event Map. Print copies will arrive at the Comfort Inn late tonight with me and Guy Olsen. We are both staying at Comfort Inn but may not get there until late.

Only streamers are up at this point. Control stands will be placed in the model area sometime between 5 and 8 this evening.

Directions to the model area can be found at locator maps or on the Race Details page.

Glad to see the Pig remaining serious about providing a fair model venue!

My sister said that the yarn is still up, I was down in Bloomington today but I didn't make it to downtown.

By the way, if anyone needs a taxi while you are in Bloomington, call E2 Taxi at 812 961 TAXI. This is a new company owned by my cousin and her husband. All the cars are Priuses, and the fares are computed at the start of your ride. You can also book a ride at www.e2taxi.com

Thanks for the info about the trees, origamiguy. We saw a bunch of them when in town for dinner tonight. My sister in law who knits will appreciate the pictures my brother took of them; she couldn't make it. :-)

The IU tree is in front of the Uptown Cafe SE of the courthouse, and my favorite was the one with knitted or crocheted sea life including jellyfish, anemones, sea urchins, and other things.
