Someone I know is looking for an inspiring 100 mile trail running race next year to get excited about. Any recommendations?
Thanks! :)
Simpy, BiT and I were having a discussion on Ultra's last night, I am keen on the Sinister 7 and BiT brought up the CDR. I ran the 50k at Oil Creek this year which I enjoyed, beautiful scenery, changing leaves, valley, water... single track... lovely!

I watched a short video for the Mohican 100 after it came up in conversation last night.

Terrain looks interesting, and I am sure Bash could provide the inside scoop as she did this race last year. Sounds like it is primarily single-track, which would be pretty sweet.
Yes it is. There's plenty of shade and lots of small climbs and descents that add up to make Mohican a UTMB qualifier. It would be a great mountain bike ride too if anyone wants to check out the course in advance.
Note that Oil Creek sells out *really* quickly so if anyone is interested, they should take note of when registration will open and be ready to start punching keys at the appropriate hour. Last year it was mid-March for an October race.
The 50k at OC sold out in 9min! I think the 100k was 75min... Crazy!
I was looking as well for an inspiring 100 miler that serves both as a qualifier for western states and UTMB and ran across Kettle Moraine100 in Wisconsin June1st. From the website which is unfortunately not up to data for some reasons the race is two out and backs all on trails and about ~2000m of climbing which is by far less than other 100 mile qualifiers. Having lived in that part of Wisconsin ( near Madison) I know it will be a community event with lots of people spectating and supporting.
Re: the Mohican 100. The trails are perfect for mountainbiking, mostly single track with lots of turns and banked corners. I really can't imagine running that loop 4 times but that maybe just me. After 40 miles I just wanted a mountainbike...;-)
And of course there is always the Wasatch100....that one excites me.
http://blackhills100.com/This one will kick your ass. On the plus side if you have a bad day you can stop at mile 45/55 and stop and have a beer at my place. Our house is 75 feet from the course.
So you could easily give people a ride over.
Yes I can. We have a new gear/guest room also.
I like gear rooms. It may be worth doing the race just to check yours out! :)
