Last time I looked at these if you buy one of the consumer level ones ($100 or less) they are basically guaranteed to die in a few years at best. When I can't coax mine back to life anymore, I am thinking of doing bulk paper shredding at Staples or a similar store -- you drop it off and pay by pound.

I jammed mine up a few months ago. Just groans when I turn it on. Probably done for. Time for another? Or just not worry?

I have a little commercial shredder, but I only use it for really sensitive docs that I want to shred right away, because it is too slow. While it hasn't died, it is basically a piece of junk. Occasionally I build up enough backlog to get a truck to come out and do it on the spot. Like 20 or 30 boxes of stuff from trials, etc. Another option, sometimes your local bank will have a shredding day and allow you to bring stuff in and shred free.
