Who are on the two DVOA teams? Has the running order been set?

Any advice for media coverage?

Samantha is running on a woman's Team for the Venla which starts at 4pm (4 legs) and then on a Woman's team in the Jukola (starts at 10:30pm).
OK Linne has 4 teams in the Venla, 35,81,84&174, but the running order is a secret!

Yeah, I would link to those teams too, but they haven't published their running orders yet.

Finnish TV a while back showed an interview filmed in the sauna tent (complete with numerous unclothed bodies). I can just imagine the reaction if something like that went to air on TV in Australia, never mind the US....
Jun 17, 2012 2:39 AM #
Tundra/Desert:
I think the bodies were blurred enough for the piece itself to pass U.S. censorship. What wouldn't pass is the fact that a female reporter walked into a sauna.

90% of max I would consider reasonable.

Jun 17, 2012 2:59 AM #
Tundra/Desert:
Well there is a percent value, and it's presumably off some stated max since the max values all seem to be different. Perhaps we're witnessing several runners with comparatively low max HRs.
Jun 17, 2012 3:01 AM #
Hammer:
During a previous runner a few legs ago they announcer mentioned it was percent of their max.
Jun 17, 2012 3:15 AM #
Bo:
They seem to be above 90%, don't they? Like 92-93% of max? That's very impressive on a 15k+!

disorienteerer:
Poor Marcus Millegard. He looked like he was about to cry or puke during that interview. Amazing effort by his teammates to pull out the bronze for Halden SK. Shows that even the best can have a "Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" in the forest.

Go CSU!

Oh yeah, that's me.

I had a decent run, could have been a few minutes better and would have been nice not to start behind 1160 other teams (next time we need to remember to ask for a better number). Orienteering as full body-contact sport... Blew the control after the first aid point by following the train into a very much shorter split, but recovered - on my own for 3 or 4 minutes, scary stuff on leg 1 of Jukola, running through an open field of nettles nobody had been in and with no lights in sight. But I was right.

Yay rest of team CSU! Top 200, 2min/km behind. And US relay champions (sorry DVOA).
Jun 17, 2012 9:20 AM #
j-man:
Nice run CSU.

@William--sure, if you want to count it as such--in the 0-point category. I don't think they have had US relay champion in that one for a while. We were contesting the 4+ point category.
Jun 17, 2012 11:32 AM #
feet:
CSU 2006: 2 hours 46 minutes 40 seconds behind.
CSU 2012: 2 hours 46 minutes 34 seconds behind.
Getting better all the time...

% behind, a little worse (winning time was shorter). Place, much better.
Jun 17, 2012 2:15 PM #
Tundra/Desert:
Hope we don't have to wait for CSU 2018! Looks like this particular CSU team will have 4 points as of 2013, and it's quite a few years until this particular DVOA team is 8+.

Nick:
was nice following on the net. gee... feet, if you guys gain a second a year to the winner, then its scary. @ feet "with no lights in sight"- been there as well on the first leg at Jukola- good thing that you were right :)
Jun 17, 2012 4:15 PM #
Hammer:
what Nick said.

"with no lights in sight"

I've been there too. TioMila 2006. Unfortunately there was a reason I saw no lights. I was going the wrong way. Congrats to the two clubs. Perhaps there should start thinking of an unofficial BK Jukola Challenge in odd numbered years (ie., non NAOC years).

Great experience, despite loosing US Jukola Relay Championship challenge to CSU.
Lots of thanks to: J-man and Dasha for managing entry and uniforms, whole DVOA Venla team for great runs and cheering for us, CSU team for making it even more interesting and a great challenge, my Teammates for super good jobs, despite some errors on a course (no one escaped from thous woods clean, time- and mud-wise). I hope there is energy and desire to make it an annual event. I am sure we can do better than 272-th.
Thanks to Ken for great pictures, there more to come from others.

@nick "if you guys gain a second a year".... then the CSU team will win for the first time, in year 12006. (It looks like the 2006 team was exactly 10,000 seconds behind the winner....)
