a suggestion - it looks like you don't rely very heavily on your compass, based on those routes. do you use a thumb compass? especially in junky woods like those, having a compass helps give you an idea of where to go if you can't see the features.

and yes, i did have a thumpass, for all the good it did. and i was even using it regularly, or so i though. i'd at least get pointed the right direction out of a control, and after that i'd check it occasionally but i was drifting waaaay more than I'd usually do. I found myself off my expected heading by 90 degrees (or more) four, maybe five times, and that's almost never happened. and i think i normally have decent heading-sense. shoulda realized i wasn't making enough sense of the map/woods and sloooowed down.
errors include: not adapting to the quality of the woods, trying too hard to make up time, and not dealing well with the heat.
