I know you're not going across the pond this summer, but I might go, and I could use some advice. Have you ever camped at Oringen? Was it a major hassle to lug tent, bag, etc over there, presumably in a large suitcase? Would it still be better than dorm space offered by the organizers? Got any other advice?

Camped last summer & enjoyed it. Look at the 2 photos (gets you close) in my log from Saturday, 7/30/11 - they show what I carried & how (rode with the luggage about a mile last day). Renting a bike was most useful - it provided alot of local range. You could get to meet site by train or bus. Also, finding some like-minded Americans would be ideal. There were very few last summer. My best company was a father & son from New Zealand camped next door. Don't know about dorm space. Can one count on good weather.... Sweden's generally sunny so camping is quite likely safer than west Scotland.

Rained hard every day at o-ringen 2010. I was fortunate to be sharing a caravan with Swedish friends. It would not have been as much fun in a tent. I believe there was dorm space available, but not sure how much. Certainly a big city of caravans.

Bob - Somehow I missed all these posts last year. I have some catching up to do. Thanks for the suggestions. Charlie - weather can be a crap shoot, as sailors know. Will be interesting to be unable to get forecasts. Nice going at West Point by the way. You, me, and Bob were certainly consistent in the results, if not the running.
