very nice writeup. I think a couple of our club folks were down for the race yesterday as well... You wouldn't have missed them - generally wearing pretty loud matching tights... and occasionally super-hero costumes, though probably not for a 50k...

Awesome work Nadim, congratualtions on finishing and in a great time! Loved the write-up - sounds like you were mentally pretty tough.

Clint, I would have liked to see your freinds. It helps to keep your humor on a long trail.

Thanks for the kind words both. I was happy about being able to push myself through all the aches along the way. I would have been happier not to have the aches too. I was pretty sore after the race and yesterday but it's already improving.

Really great run and fun to read about. It does seem that most trail and road racing is about being in awesome shape and then dealing with all sorts of pain....

Thanks! I'd like to think that I have a long way to go to being in awesome shape but for what shape I am in, I thought I did okay and am reasonably happy.

good report! I had a great time at the race and it was fun hobbling over to the picnic w/ you. Note: He did say "go" - he just said it sort of as part of a sentence. It was almost as if he started the race as an afterthought to whatever he was saying at the beginning. He was like "hey, ive talked long enough you guys should go, go . . . "

Ha ha! I had some real stiffness on monday but am doing ok now. I beat up my left achilles however and need to treat that. PS - do you think they lost the results??

It was good having you there Jon, to share experiences in the training, the psyching-up, and during the race too.

When it gets worse, my calf tightness over the last 2 years comes to hurt more at the Achilles tendon--it just tends to start lower. Besides resting for a while, I found that static stretching before and after runs, running on softer surfaces, and taking days off from running (while still being able to cross train) has helped. I don't know if that will work for you but I hope so.

The lack of results even now are a wonder. There could have been a problem or maybe they are taking the low-key-race thing to an extreme. I guess Ed was too tired afterward. When he was driving a few of us from the finish to the start, I asked him when he'd gotten up. He said he never went to bed the night before the race, and that he was just going to crash after it. That might be part of the hold-up. I would have assumed he'd have Don, his wife, or others in MCRRC do the results for him and that they'd be out by now. At least they had the pictures out pretty fast. It took me until last night to finish posting the QOC Patuxent River 10k pictures I and some others took but that's because we (Greg Lennon helped a lot too) were tagging each photo with bib#, first and last names & other info.

I never saw Rich Prior go by us but unless the time stamping on one of their cameras was off, his picture had a time stamp 21 minutes (!) ahead of me on the Seneca Ridge Trail. He could have gotten past me without me seeing him at an aid station but nowhere else. I think that would have been around mile 23. By the time stamp you however, were only 3 minutes behind there--that's also a little strange because I know I slowed down a lot about 3 miles after that. I suppose we'll find out.
