Does anyone know any details of these events? What time and where each event is?
(limited) details in events
Are they available publicly anywhere?
I can't find anything. Try Bruce?
I believe this is the extent of the information on the web.

Ballarat is the obvious accomodation venue.
Buggar those events are early on Saturday! Any reason why?
Going to be fun for any interstates wanting to arrive early sat (or finish driving).
Those times do seem a bit early for a Saturday.
But whatever you do, dont miss the middle at Surface Hill.
Roch (Hawk08) has found a small but very detailed area of mining. Reminds me of parts of Petticoat Gully and the best bits of Chinaman's Flat. Roch has done an excellent job mapping a very difficult area using only VicMap 10m contours as a base. I am certain the map is going to be of the highest possible standard.
Although the mining area is small, the courses will make the fullest possible use of the best terrain and the runners can expect very intense orienteering and some of the best gold mining orienteering to be had anywhere.
Can I do it on my mountain bike?
ok if robplow's saying we gotta go then i'm keen... "best bits of Chinaman's Flat" - sold!
and yeah, i guess the victorians only think about victorians when scheduling??
Can I do it on my mountain bike
Nah - this is gonna be real orienteering - as good as it gets.
... and you get to run on the best bits of Chinaman's Flat on Sunday!
Oh well, barely worth going then :P
Maybe if I had foot-O skills I might consider it.
Good way to learn the skills. Alternatively, stop in Adelaide for WOMAdelaide. Mahala Rai Banda. For me, hard choice.
Sorry about the early start. Did not think it through. Was really only focused on a very small club running two events in one day. Hope it works out for you interstaters. It should be well worth the inconvenience. Having said all this, Victoria is the most important state in Aus.
Behind Tasmania of course.
Should be a good weekend, looking forward to it!
I thought WA had the most to import?
WA has the most to export I think. Or is it just Gina has the most to export.
Oops, I guess we're the most exportant then.
Gina on the other hand is retarded.
Interesting looking at the photos. When I am mapping I dont notice the trees. Odd
We shouldn't expect the vegetation to be mapped then?
No! The whole map is yellow. Only a joke. Please dont take it seriously. I am sure someone will.
Looks great. Can we delay it by 6 months so I'll be fit enough to race?
he doesnt notice the ground either - the map is just white - start practising compass and pacing.
Gee I'm almost tempted into the other side of O.
As a challenge if, after the competition the first person to give the location and direction of the the camera angle that Invisible has used above a prize will be offered.
Invisible and any close confidant is ineligible.
Invis can't remember. Just thought it was worth letting those wavering about attending know what they would miss.
Might be better to create an AP event item for this rather than having it in a discussion.
"Gee I'm almost tempted into the other side of O."
Isnt that Mountain bike orienteering already?
I meant the other side from the side I do.
Actually I do both but I don't travel for foot-O (usually) because I'm awful at it.
The schedule seems pretty similar to what NSW are offering in May.
Saturday May 12: Urban sprint at Newcastle University from 9:00 am. Middle distance event on new map at Pelaw Main on Saturday afternnon, with starts from 1:30 pm.
Sunday May 13: Long distance race (WRE) at Kitchener, with starts from 9:30 am.
Sigh, I remember the fun of that sort of stuff - I could still beat tRicky in that terrain! Pang.
Yes, hence the awful comment. I might beat you at the sprint though.
No wait, you're old now. I recall beating you at both our championships last year!
Quite correct Bruce - very similar schedule. It is a bit hard to be creative with a WOC Trial I guess!
I must admit that my heart sunk a little with some references to a 9:00am start Saturday earlier in this thread - that's what we have, so I guess the Eureka Challenge will be good rehearsal!! Concerns have gone a bit quiet though (sigh of relief).
Our Coalfields Classic web site is up and running now for those interested, with WRE Bulletin 1/2 published. Can acees from the AP listing in racing.
Well done StK66 - all those timelines are working!
Yes, they are tinytoes. Helps when I have so many capable people in my corner.
Final Bulletin
Has anyone seen the old maps of the area
Why are the women expected to be faster than the men in the long race?
Its not because there course is flatter, just the opposite, got to be a mistake
They are women. They are better than you.
On another topic, is anyone driving from Melbourne on Saturday morning, March 10? I'm looking for a lift (staying in Carlton). First train to Ballarat arrives 8:34am which is cutting it a bit close even with a lift from the station arranged. Email is in my profile.
I believe the listed women's distance is incorrect - will follow up with the organisers.
The entry website has the Girls as 9.9 k
What's the story with the new SI sticks being required for the long race? Where do I get one?
That is a bit misleading, what has been written.
Its only the NOL Men that need the newer stick, and the organisers have already organised to have some there for the PPL who dont own one
Ok. I'd better not go around punching every control I find then.
Mmmmm.... I see your problem, I have a SI stick here that holds more than 50 punches, will that help :)
