Ditto to everything you said. Even our scores were the same!

I saw the person in question, too, who went up onto a spur to check things out. Even after I told that person not to and that the rules said to stay on the trail....

But then I got back to the start and discovered that not only were they not keeping score but they didn't even keep track of who was out vs finished!!! Very bad!! Definitely not a good experience overall.

There were people on the championship course not following the rules, too - I didn't see anyone leave the trail, but I did see several people using the stairs, particularly by #11. I thought forbidden routes were supposed to be marked on the map and in the terrain - just mentioning it in the course notes doesn't seem sufficient.

Yes, it would have been easy to mark the stairs as "out of bounds" by putting marks on them. I think in some cases it was ignorance but sometimes it was just too tempting to get a better look for some people.
