Yeah, that sounds a bit crazy. Glad you came back alive. Prety easy to get heat exhaustion this time of year.

Was this on the Great North Mountain or thereabout? I like that area for hiking. I imagine the ridges probably would be nice for some mountain biking. I recall some stuff between Fort Valley and Strasburg, VA being fun mountain biking too. Take care!

It wasn't the heat that caused the problem. It was actually cool and breezy on the mountain. I had the same stomach issue during 3 adventure races last year, and it was not hot in March and late October. At least 1 time it was caused by eating spoiled food, another time I think it was electrolyte pills did not digest well. I was testing some new GU electrolyte tabs this time. I suspect this was the cause.

Around Great North Mountain, ridge trails can be too rocky, and most trails are too steep and rocky to ride up, but are fun to ride down.

Okay but it just sounded dangerous either way--perhaps it wasn't really.

Yes, I enjoyed riding down rocky stuff too. On the ride I had done around Fort Valley I can recall pushing my bike up over what amounted to a trail full of scree. Going down was the same but I could ride it and was really enjoying full suspension smoothing it out.
