OK now I understand why you reacted like you did many months ago when there were 5 or 6 snowflakes in the air. Aussies (or is that Tasmanians) have a different term for blizzard than we Canucks do.

This line from the newspaper article is quite amusing

"He said another cold front would keep Tasmanians in heavy winter clothing again today because a south-westerly flow was expected to bring temperatures around a maximum of 9C."

Pissweak indeed.

When I lived in Sydney for awhile, I used to ride the ferry to work sitting outdoors wearing a suit jacket on the "harshest" 5C winter days. The locals huddled indoors wearing thick coats and hats. I got a lot of funny looks. On the other hand, their summer weather kicked my butt. Between the heat waves and the torrential rainstorms, it was tough for a Canadian accustomed to decent weather. ;)

Yes Bash we are learning our Aussie vocabulary as well.

Aussie Canadian
Oi=Eh
Boot = Trunk
Beanie = wimpy version of a toque
witch's hat = cone
hardcore = pissweak
blizzard = a few flurries and a high of 9C

Super:
maybe we should have a war. hammer can lead us there and bender can kill all the wildlife while the rest of us make ice to throw at them and cool our drinks since I'm guessing we can do this one handed provided the weather is horrendous enough.

Can't, see verse four:

No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us

We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too

Boom goes London and boom Paris
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it will be
We'll set everybody free
You'll wear a Japanese kimono babe
And there'll be Italian shoes for me

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

Pissweak and actually totally un-newsworthy. The place where they were taking the footage from gets snow every year and highs around 8-9 (and lower) are not unusual for a Hobart winter. Must have been a slow news day.

I have to admit though, my first response was - 'thats not snow'. Then I felt really dirty and un-Australian, so ate a jar of vegemite to make up for it.

vegemite -- that is low quality marmite, correct?

Big talk for a guy whose national dish is dry fish and meatballs from a furniture shop.

Same thing.

Those fishballs seemed to work at the Tour this morning; NOR first to the line ...maybe tnipen at the Tour 2012 with all the cycling and wicked aero gear design he's been partaking in recently.

Bash:
NOR also 3rd to the line! Very cool.

Bender:
Whatever ...that NOR's had his day already this tour, over and over and over ...and likely over again tomorrow.

Jul 9, 2011 10:32 AM #
Milo:
There's people wearing beanies here in Sydney and its 17 deg.

Bender:
Ah yes, the summer-beanie.
