On the sample middle distance map is a blueish screen being used to designate slow run?
Dec 30, 2010 4:07 AM #
Juffy:
'tis most definitely a 30% green. :)

LOST_Richard:
the slow run is typical WA Helena Valley scrub, not too hard to get through but a few prickles to remember the area by later

I still have some from 1998...

It sure looks pale blue to me and to my wife. Must be a colour resolution problem with our computer, I guess.

grilla:
It must be your computer display - it looks exactly like the print on mine (i.e. light green).

Regardless, you should look into coming over its a fantastic area!

my computer is telling me that there is no accommodation anywhere near york and northam and hasn't been for the past few months ive looked, hope the terrain is worthwhile for it being held in the area. Not looking forward to driving there each day from perth.

Lazydave it's about 80 minutes from the centre of Perth, but only about 50-60 minutes from the SE suburbs. Northam is actually further than Perth, and York is only a tad closer than the SE suburbs. There are caravan parks with cabins in Queens Park and Forrestfield, both close to Welshpool Rd which is the best route out of Perth to reach Brookton Highway.

Hi everyone, I have just called a couple of the hotels / motels in York and the Castle Hotel (08 946 11007) has 14 Motel Units and 10 Hotel Rooms available, the others I spoke to said they would get back to me as the office was not open on a Sunday afternoon. I will post again when I hear from them, but I suggest a few phone calls might give a better result than reliance on web sites and certainly I have heard of people finding B&B and Houses recently.

There is a grid of York Accommodation linked off the Frazzle Web Site http://www.aus3days2011.orienteering.asn.au/images...

On the question of is it worth it, of course I am going to yes, but when I compare to many other national events the distances from Perth or York it sits very well against them and I am confident that it is worth the effort.

As Simmo says driving from Perth is an option and certainly if you pool the driving then it is a very easy straightforward drive down the Brockton Highway

Yes, but lazydave is lazy! :)

Thanks simmo and Richard. Just getting frustrated. I have called 4 places with no luck, well one had rooms but wanted a 5 night minimum!

We're going to drive each day, it's 'easy' driving as Brookton Hwy has virtually no traffic (Brookton aint that busy) and no junctions other than gravel side roads. I guess the driving will become tiresome after multiple days, but certainly we've had 2 or 3 long driving days at events at Easter before. Normally though at least one of the days is pretty close to your accomodation.

As Simmo says, if you chase accomodation in SE suburbs (shudder) it's a relatively short drive.
@lazydave, 5 nights eh... come in Thurs for your fine-tuning of your preparation, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon fly home. There's 5 :-)

Can anyone tell me what time the first elite start for the prologue is likely to be?
Jan 8, 2011 3:02 AM #
LOST_Richard:
We expect the prologue Elite race to start at 11:00am but at the present we have not yet confirmed the details. We can guarantee it will not be any earlier that 11:00am for the first starts

If you are not running Elites will be from 1pm approx

The event site is 90 minutes drive from Perth Airport (and that is a smooth run and just the driving time).

For the 3 Day we have not set the start times as yet but morning starts each day.

Once we set start times we will post them on the website.

Thanks, im looking at a flight that gets in to Perth at 8am, so that should be ok, even if a bit rushed.
Jan 8, 2011 4:01 AM #
Juffy:
Piece of cake - the only reason it ever takes more than 20 minutes to get out of Perth airport is if you get savaged by a quarantine beagle.

It happens more often than they like to admit.

Just wear thick socks and you'll be fine.
