Discussion: Sat phones for U NE

I know this only applies to a small group on AP, but this is the best way I know of to reach a number of you at once...

I looked into renting a phone from Roadpost, as suggested by the race organizers, assuming they would have a sizable order being shipped to the race. The response I got indicated they had none (may have just been the inside sales person I was dealing with).

Regardless.... it's no big deal but it irks me to spend $80 on courier fees ($40 ea way) to get a phone that will only cost $10 per day to rent (which seems very reasonable to me).

Has anyone else put in an order or does anyone know if there is a 'group' shipment going to the Balsam's?

Our team hasn't looked into it yet but I think when we went there a few years ago we rented from our local city in Canada, something like $50/week. It was from Ottawa I believe, I will look into it and get back to you...

Ottawa is local for you now? You Canadians have no concept of distance. :-)

Ha, no, not for me, but my two teammates.

The teammate who rented it a few years ago doesn't recall so we may have to do the same and rent and pay hefty courier fees.

I'm sure there's a place in Toronto that must rent as well. Will look around and keep you posted if I find anything.

We are still finalizing our order, Dave, but it is *officially* in their system now. I've already got our early shipment (using them now), so you caught them in between orders.

We have to add BGAN units and some other things, but it will be finalized in a week or so. If you succeed in bundling your phone in with our shipment just make sure we don't lose track of it and issue yours to our staff. We should be able to give yours to you at the VIP reception on Weds night.

Is your order under Untamed New England or???
