Come to the North Americans! The US can sure use you in our bid to finally topple the Canadians!
And, of course: congrats on kicking butt this weekend and good luck with your recovery!!

second the North Americans. It will be the best competition you'll get this side of the pond before WOC. If you have that weekend available I would encourage you to make every effort. We're flying in to Calgary, plenty of others are coming too, getting a ride should be quite easy.

You could also go to O-Ringen two weeks before WOC. Get some Scandinavian orienteering in with enough time to recover for WOC. Not sure how much vacation you have though.

So I've been trying to scheme a way to get to North Americans now- but have this awful constraint of needing to be in London by midday Monday... can perhaps make it happen though (will work still buy my flights to Europe if I depart from Canada return to Boston?)

O-Ringen I have a conference during, unfortunately, but may be free and in Europe the week before- do you know of anything then Sandra? As far as I've been able to find, there's a multiday in Serbia and then the WUOC tour races, which might be more relevant terrain and maybe I could stay for the first day of the O-Ringen....

WUOC tour should be good practice - that might be a good one to go for!

Yeah, the WUOC terrain is probably the most relevant for Trondheim of the things you mention. I would recommend that strongly.

It might also be useful to just go to Trondheim and spend a lot of time in the terrain without the pressure (or distraction) of a race every day.

If you're around and free the week before WUOC, Tom Hollowell is coordinating a training week in Karlstad. I think a bunch of the juniors are going. I'm planning to go, maybe some others from the WUOC team, too.

What are the exact dates of this training camp in Karlstad. I might also be able to come... :-)

It coincides with the OK Tyr summer evening mini-series from July 11-15. I think the plan is to have trainings during the day and then do the local races in the evenings. WUOC doesn't start until July 18, so we may stay in Karlstad until then, or head up to Borlange and get some training in there ahead of WUOC.

Hmmm, unfortunately have to be in a different meeting the week before WUOC... but hoping hoping I don't get told to go hang out with collaborators in Germany and can go either to Trondheim or do the WUOC tour races that week! Looks like there will be much flying about this summer...

Congrats on making the team! Remember that even on the rest days you can do armchair O 'training' and 'psychological training' ... which can both make a huge difference in racing. And they can help you feel productive even on a day when you are resting your body.

Good luck with the resting ... and the WOC!

For some armchair O I would recommend that you study some of the GPS tracking from this spring: http://www.tulospalvelu.fi/gps/

My guess is that Craft Cup at the top of the list and Norwegian Spring would be relevant for WOC. Maybe to a certain extent also the Swedish Elitserien in Arvika.

Great races BTW, congratulations on your selection to the WOC team!

I'm also now leaning towards doing the training in Karlstad and then maybe being team leader and running the races at WUOC. It would be great fun to be team leaders together!!!!! Or, if you want to go to Tronheim that week, I could also be convinced provided we find a place to stay. We should chat more this weekend!

Oh, and you should most certainly come to North Americans. We need you!

Oooh awesome! It does look like I will have that week free. I'm still trying to find a way to make North American's work, but it's tough to figure out a flight that's reasonable enough that work will pay for it that will get me from Calgary to London for Monday morning, argh, will have to try all the airline websites again... my fall back plan is to head to Trondheim that weekend- the Norweigian and Swedish teams are having their team trials somewhere nearby, which I'd guess is relevant terrain?

And thanks for that link bubo- really fun and great armchair training!

How about a flight that is reasonable enough that your work will cover most of it and your O-USA friends help cover the rest :)

Now you're thinking, Ross!

Ali, you know you want to be there. We just have to make it happen.
