Discussion: WCOC meet on RouteGadget, etc.

in: WCOC / US Team A-Meet/WRE (May 8–9, 2010 - Danbury, CT)

Valerie has put the maps on Route Gadget.

The WRE points for Saturday and Sunday. There were enough ranked women there to get valid ranking points both days (that had been a concern). Congrats to Sam and Ross for winning both days. And thanks to Vladimir Gusiatnikov for being our IOF event adviser.

Results are here.

And for those who weren't at the awards, special prizes (drinkable and edible) were given out to the following --

Lyn Walker, meet director
George Walker, her able assistant
Course setters Peter Grollman and Joe Brautigam
Results by Valerie Meyer and Sandy Fillebrown
Jim Henderson, registration
Susie and Rick DeWitt, pretty much everything else.

Also, Linda Kohn, head honcho of the Senior team and Janet Porter for all the work they do. The event was a collaboration between WCOC and the U.S. Teams.

Also, and this one got the loudest applause, to the person responsible for the coolest thing in orienteering, to Kenny Walker, developer of AttackPoint.

Thanks to all who came. Come back and enjoy our forests again.

Just one excellent part of an excellent meet.

@Orion4ik: thanks for your patience. Valerie was training me to upload splits to AP, and there were a few technical glitches yesterday. But Sunday splits have now been added to AP.

WinSplits coming soon.

Thanks for posting everything!
Sorry to be annoying, but is there a way to group the blue1 and blue2 in one set of splits? I think a bunch of us would really appreciate it.

PG:
They are grouped here, also on WinSplits where results are listed by class. (Though I'm guessing you'd also like them grouped on AP for analysis purposes?)

Boris, just posted, but without leg lengths. Give me a few minutes to enter them manually (and later I'll learn if there is a better way to do it).

Thanks a lot! You guys are awesome!

Thanks Mary. When I get a chance, I will try to switch the b2 runners' butterfly legs around so those comparisons work.

Congratulations to Rick and Philip who broke up the top eight monopoly of Bobs and Robs in the all-important M 60+ class.
Wish I could have been there! The map, photos and courses look terrific!

Mary, is all this work you're doing an indication that you are about to join WCOC (or already have)?

Ha! You know the saying "once an OK member, always an OK member" :) Ask peggyd and kupackman.

Actually, I decided to learn how to do this step of results processing so I could help out any club. Especially if I'm not at the meet, I will be fresh and alert and ready to post later the same evening, if possible.

Like Mary said, OK is her club for life, but perhaps she will consider herself part of Team vmeyer. ;)

Thank you, Mary.

I want to note that this was the finest meet I can remember attending in recent memory. The terrain, maps, and courses were all excellent, and the peripheral points were quite fine as well. It was very pure orienteering of the finest kind. And no bugs!

JJ your making me even more jealous of you all! The maps/courses look like loads of fun! Glad the meet went off so well. Congrats to all involved.

Joe, how much sleep did you get in April? Just curious.

Also curious which WCOC map was featured on the etched metal magnet awards. Unless I'm blind/confused I can't find hat spot on this weekend's maps...

Part of Ansonia according to the fabricator / route designer.

Ansonia is on the etched awards - have a look at the nice, detailed part on the east side. It goes a little into the ob area

Although I could make only one day of this event , my impressions were just like JJ described. Congratulations to all organizers.

Thanks for a great meet! Fantastic venues, maps and organization.

One slight grumble from a friend that came by to try out the Rec courses - a map legend might have been helpful. Out of the 5 White Rec starters on the second day, none finished!

Map legends were available at packet pickup, and I assume, registration...

fossil:
It wasn't the lack of a legend. The white courses were not appropriate white level.

GuyO:
I am aware of at least one M-12 who would agree with fossil's assessment. He said that on Sunday's white course, the controls were on the "hard" side of the features.
