I am also missing those two (plus KY and AK), though that's not on my overnight list, just my 'feet have touched soil' and 'peed there' list. I keep thinking I should just take a long weekend to go up to the Dakotas and hike around, but there never seems to be a right moment. We should organize a little O weekend to motivate ourselves to go...
Well, SD was available for O this coming weekend, but you seem to have alternate plans, Cristina.
(I'm missing only HI, but there are a few like MS and OK where I haven't stopped for the night. And IA, where I've spent the night numerous times, but always in my car, I think.)
HI was my #50. It would have been interesting to see how my life would have unfolded had I not injured my ankle. The Hawaii trip came as a direct result of refunding airfare for the 2008 Tucson A-Meet.
With a healthy ankle, maybe I'm still at 49, and Hawaii is a honeymoon destination instead of that other lava-spewing island...
Also interesting that another one of your not-yets is Mississippi. That one was one of my final five, too. (HI, ME, NV, LA, and MS were my final five).
In 2001, I took a road trip specifically to North Dakota because I had read where it was the least visited state. Teddy Roosevelt National Park is pretty cool. We did a couple of days of backpacking there. It doesn't have the wow factor that South Dakota has, but it's got some badlands, some buffalo, and plenty of wide open space without a lot of people.
Been to them all but would have to think about the sleeping part. Just too long ago in some cases.
