We're getting geared up for our first 24 hour race of the season this weekend. It's actually a Rogaine, but a lot of people in our part just call it an adventure race. This is the 10th year for the Eco-Endurance Challenge, so that's cool I guess.

The course is on a paper company's land, so it's methodically harvested which means a lot of bushwhacking through clear-cuts and some very tight young growth. "Forest runnable" does not exist. The maps are usually quite good which is nice. Unfortunately, scenery is monotonous with a few bright exceptions among the many lakes. Maybe the best part of it is that for whatever reason it brings out people in the hundreds! Likely due to it's reliability and annual nature. (We're usually lucky to get 50 people at an AR otherwise.)

Weather is unseasonably warm and dry, but it is Nova Scotia so there is a chance we'll see just about anything from snow to blistering heat.

Depending on the course I expect we'll put in 70 to 90 kms.

I'll be sure to let you know how it goes!

It's surprising that a rogaine of this size doesn't get more people... especially from PQ or ON. They've added prize money in the last two years which might help. Where it is hosted by Search and Rescue it might not get the right marketing out of the Maritimes.

Might see you in 2011, and thanks for the luck!

(It is a great way to start the season.)

We were interested too and hope to get there some time. Unfortunately, it conflicts with one of the larger adventure race weekends in Ontario.

Oh, and just for ghits and shiggles... I figured it'd be a good idea to extract my (left index) toenail moving a recliner this evening.

That's just super.

The plot thickens... looks like Tiny is making the trip to the E2C!

Tiny, we may or may not have crossed paths at Untamed last year... but if you catch this and you need a place to stay before / after the E2C and you don't mind large filthy dogs or unruly children then my house is your house.

Some of the NB teams will be staying with me too... happens every race and catching up is just as fun as racing itself.

I lopped the rest of the nail off last night. Not sure if that was a good decision or not, but I didn't want a half hanging on thing there ready to get pushed around and stuff.

I'll see to it that Martigan is fluffed and ready for you!

Thanks for the offer, we should be good. We should definitely try to introduce ourselves, yes we were at Untamed last year and will be there this year as well. We're the co-ed team of 2, with the tall guy and short lady. Although I'm not sure anyone has ever refered to Audrey as a lady. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Tall guy... short lady... check. It'll probably be easier for us to find you! But just in case:

I'm on a team of three with Shawn and Shannon... this is us:

Well, that isn't Shannon, but Shannon is an equally fit looking chick with dark hair so close enough.

You'll know NSAR (Troy) if you see him because he'll be asking people what he's supposed to do with the "plastic thing with the funny needle" and he may also still smell of Irish Wolfhound lovin's.
