I'd love to hear some feedback.
Matt does, not sure if you already knew that... so far i have been sticking to Hammer and Gu, have you started using Vespa already?
My teammate is, his name is Brian Schmitz, and he is on here under checkpoint 13. He's had some success, and might just sell me on it.
Max, my issues have always been not getting enough calories. My stomach literally growls regularly during a race (long and short). I'll feed myself regularly; but soon after, I hit another rut. I've tried all kinds of food (real, synthetic, and liquid); but there's only so much I stuff into my stomach. What I think also contributes my prob, is that my body fat is very low.
Recently, I've read that VESPA allows one to feed off more of their fat vs carb stores. If that's true, this could be the answer I'm looking for (assuming I have enough stored body fat?)
I've tried VESPA 3 times (2x while training and 1x while racing). The first time was on a 5 hr road ride and then on a 3 hr MTB ride. In both cases, I barely ate (purposely). And I felt good. No growling and little need for food. I did eat a little during each ride (about 300 calories), just to avoid any disasters. My energy levels for both rides were good, but not great. I attribute that to me drastically cutting my calorie intake during those rides (purposely, as an experiment). For the race (adventure race), I added more calories to my diet; but not much. It was a 7.5 hr race and I took in about 700 calories and felt great! 700 calories is at least half of what I normally would've taken.
All told, I'm still experiementing. But I 'think' I've finally hit on something that could be the answer I'm looking for!
There's more to the VESPA thing than simply consuming the product. For it to be super effective, you need to change your daily diet.
