yea can you do "occasional logging" in 12' wide swaths?
It's more thinning at first to get out the weak trees. Later you go after the crop trees which were left behind -- in 20-30 years, once they're 20-30" diameter and reach maximum value. Some areas up the logging road just have junk growing now, and may get 2 acre clearcuts here and there. Those might not have optimum logs for 50 years. The Pines are too densely packed, and have to be thinned.
The 12' swaths for access might yield enough pulpwood to break even. By the time you get the log to the road, you've spent what it will currently get on the market. Of course, if I had a sawmill, I could turn it into lumber onsite.
why do I sense someone is considering getting a new toy???
nah, got a neighbor who can do that. I like my arms and legs too much to run a sawmill.
