Team Trials scores after day 1 are available

Wyatt:
On the men's side, I think
Jon T. had low-15's.
Patrick G. was similarly 15's but mp'ed.
Wil Smith DNS'ed to prepare for the Middle...

Women
Kata Smith was ~15:45

Great performances on the day included:

Viktoria Brautigam, who started the race with a 6th place scaled-ranking, then cleanly caught up to Sam, and was fit enough to battle it out with Sam to the end to win by nearly a full minute.

Cristina Luis who started with a 7th place rankings based score, and finished 3rd in the Sprint, running a solid race alone(?) in the forest.

Ross, who won the Men's sprint by a decent margin - a result the rest of the M21's are getting all too familiar with...

And last, but certainly not least, Tom Carr, who despite exuding pre-race confidence that he was not a contender, pulled off a 3rd place finish earning nearly 15 points above his scaled ranking...

AZ:
There was an unusual last control situation in which three controls were in a row on the way to the finish and a number of people ran to the one closest to the finish - but this control was only for the white course. I suspect a number of people may have mp'ed there - certainly there was a lot of time lost on the last control.

I wonder - was that Patrick's mp?
May 2, 2009 1:48 AM #
Charlie:
Erik Nystrom lost 40s on the last control when he had to go back for it. Still ran 14:17.
May 2, 2009 2:30 AM #
wilsmith:
That was Patrick's mp, as far as I understand.

It is quite unusual to have multiple last controls; I have only seen it very rarely in international competition, and even then only when the situation (typically with a clear arena diagram) has been explained publicly to all runners before the event. I do not recall seeing any notification in the event notes for this race. I am not sure that strictly speaking it is against the rules to have multiple last controls without disclosing this in advance, but it certainly is unusual.

Bottom line: runners definitely do need to check their codes and be sure of the controls, but I am not convinced that course setters should be trying to "trick" competitors either.

Yes, my appreciation to all who posted results here -- it was really fun to watch from afar.
Congrats to all the team members, especially the first timer(s) (Cristina being the only one right now, but I believe both the first alternates would be first-timers as well, should they move up).

Nikolay, the links to your domain aren't working for me. Jordan, nice run in the long race!
May 5, 2009 1:28 AM #
Nikolay:
The domain registrar have not updated the DNS entries for it probably. It is strange though, It takes about an hour for the DNS tables to get updated, and it already worked from a friend's PC in Redmond before I posted it. So I would think at least for you in Seattle it should work.

Guess it needs more time to propagate the changes everywhere.

The final scoring list has finally been posted (subject to typo corrections - the order of the top 10 has been double checked, that last digits have not.) Sorry for the delay. Enjoy.

So, has there actually been an official announcement of the team yet? Was Boris the only one to decline a place? I am confused because the various team lists include at least one person as going to WOC that I thought was also intending to decline.

If this is still all playing out behind the scenes, I'd certainly understand. I'm just curious.
