Discussion: Ride to/from Hartford airport?

Hi guys,

I'm flying into the Hartford-Brainard airport Friday night around 8:40, and I was hoping to get a ride up to West Springfield. Is anyone else going to be at the airport around the same time Friday evening who would be willing to drop me off anywhere in the Springfield area?

Also, is anyone flying out of the Harford airport early Sunday evening who has extra car space?

Holly, if you don't get a better offer we could drop you off at the airport on Sunday. We will drive right by it on our way home.

I'm actually flying into the Bradley airport (BDL), not Brainard; is anyone else flying into BDL Friday evening?

Unhelpful comment: it is extraordinarily unlikely that anyone is flying into Brainard which does not have (and has never had?) commercial service, so probably most people interpreted that you meant BDL to begin with.

As William notes, not much goes in or out of Brainard, and like Charlie, I could give a ride either from BDL on Saturday AM or back to BDL on Sunday after the meet. I''m heading right by there with room in the car. Not planning on going up Friday though...

Brainard was the commercial airport for Hartford back in the day, a long time ago. Then again I did quite a few flights from there with a friend in his Cessna just a few years ago.

I used to fly to NYC out of Brainard in the 80s via helicopter. We landed someplace around midtown. Pretty convenient. I think that service stopped around '87 or '88 or thereabouts.

Holly: My current plan is to go up early on Saturday to the meet and pre-run, and to come back to CT shortly after my run on Sunday. If you want to stay at our place Friday night, that would be ok, and I could get you at the airport. I could drop you at the airport on Sunday, but that might involve some serious hanging around time at BDL for you. You can probably get a better offer on both ends.

Charlie, thanks for the offer to stay over Friday and drive up on Saturday :). I have lodging reservations with the Borishes already though, so I think I'll stick to leaving on Friday night. I looked up the public transit/taxi options to Springfield, and it looks like everything'll work out okay.

Holly, if you have any questions about the buses and other public transportation in/out of Bradley contact Corinne directly at corinne.l.porter(at)gmail.com as she went to college in Springfield and has used the services and still does on occasion to visit her college friends.

Last year I just called the phone number posted on the bus stop sign at BDL and some very nice people answered all my bus-related questions. When there is no internet access, this technique works surprisingly well in most jurisdictions.
