I sure hope that if there is going to be a cool sprint on Friday that it will be open to all orienteers coming to the USMA weekend, not just those racing for US Team slots. Any info?

Only blue & red courses but it is anticipated, but not yet confirmed, that courses will be opn to all.

Permitting is pending for Friday. Not guaranteed at all.
If the race is permitted, we certainly will welcome non-trialers (perhaps a limited number) to run as well. The park looks really interesting so I’m hoping we’re able to hold the race there.

Any new word on this Friday race?

All this is tentative, as I'm awaiting confirmation from HVO. The permit is in works, looks like a decent chance it will come through, but of course nothing is certain!
Starts will likely be between 1 and 2, with Trialers going first and everyone else after that.

Red is 2.3 km, 16 controls; Blue is 2.6 km, 20 controls. The course setter, Kseniya Popova, says the map is superb and the park looks fantastic.

If anyone wants to help before/during/after, HVO may welcome that!
Note that there is a nominal limit of 35 racers; I don't think we'll get that many but as long as we don't go wildly over that, we'll probably be okay.

That is literally everything I know. When I get updates, they'll be posted.
Thanks for everyone's patience (and HVO!!).

I do not have registration information yet.

We are still waiting on the permit although it looks like a go.
We will open registration, hopefully on Monday. Watch this space.
There will be no signs from parking area (Park restriction) so follow directions carefully.
There will be no assigned start times but starts will be at least one minute interval between 1.00-2.00 p.m.
Fort Tryon is on the east side of the Hudson about .5 mile north of George Washington Bridge Google 40.860694011918305, -73.93240413996527.,

If you're running in the WP sprint as part of the Trials (ie, you are competing to make the WOC team and plan to attend WOC if selected), *Please* email me (pdickison @ comcast.net) *ASAP* so that the cadets can assign starts for the Sprint in the TT window.

Fort Tryon on Friday is approved.

Registration and details https://www.hvorienteering.com/fort-tryon-us-team-...

Registration closes Thursday night.
Courses (Blue/Red are open to team triallists and others but the Park has limited us to 35 (ish) runners. Team trial runners will have preference if (unlikely) registrations exceed.,

I've got a couple young juniors who want to run courses. Any thoughts on safety of the area? Anything you'd be concerned about?

Contrary to what I put above starts are 12.00- 2.00.

Mike. I doubt it would be a problem especially as there will be others running around at the same time. I haven't visited the site yet and the course setter is away at present. I will probably go down there this afternoon and have a walk around. How junior are the juniors?

Thanks, Geof. 15 year old girl and a 14 year old boy who looks a couple years younger.

Mike - Tryon seems pretty safe to me - especially if the kids can run fast!

Thanks Geof, see you there!

Geof, link not working. Did you mean to use the same info link as above?—which seems to be working and seems to have the relevant information.

The direct link to the list of registered runners and (eventually, not yet) start times is:

https://eventreg.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister...

Of course you can also get there from the OUSA EventReg page (which is where I got the link from).

Sorry about the link. The one I posted on April 18 is correct
https://www.hvorienteering.com/fort-tryon-us-team-...

There are no formal start times, come to start when you are ready and we will set you off at 2 minute intervals for each course. As we only have 20+ competitors registered as of today I don't anticipate much wait time.

Are there results?

(Posted here instead of new thread for … reasons)
Results from Day 1 sprint at Fort Tryon:
Men — 1, Joseph Barrett, 24:21
2, Wyatt Riley, 31:32
3, Eric Bone, 33:24
4, Jeremy Colgan, 37:26
Women — 1, Oriana Riley, 34:22
2, Alexis Merka, 35:52

All participants (that I talked to) thought it was a really tough sprint, with tricky route choices, plus a fair amount of climb. Excellent map and courses!
Many thanks to HVO for making the event happen.

Joseph Barrett won again on Saturday’s sprint, and is the automatic qualifier among the men for WOC. There are no automatic women qualifiers because the minimum number of trials competitors (3) was not met either day.
The WOC Team will be announced on May 1st or 2nd, to allow for the final determination of the North American automatic qualifiers (based on WRE sprint results through 1 May).
