From the instructions -- "The start and finish is at the two boulders on the east side of the road at a wide pull off point."
Which is exactly where Charlie's car was parked and where I started and finished. So did Phil, who started a ways NE on the road, do a shorter course? :-)

Instructions? What instructions? I went by the map. I started from the center of the start triangle, which is what I was taught to do. Yes, I saved 10 seconds or so over those who never went to the finish and never completed the course.

Seems like a fine idea, gets more visibility than just adding it on to something already posted.
Looks like your GPS gave you a couple of tenths shorter route than mine. Just a continuation of yours giving you credit for less distance than you did? Though it does look like your routes were straighter in several places, so maybe that is enough to account for the difference.
I went according to the start triangle as well, but using the boulder and road shape as references rather than the pavement break.
I was unburdened by knowledge of the instruction PG cites and after some doubts found the Boulder at the Start triangle. Time, in my case, is of no great importance.
Sorry for confusion - as explained on Charlie’s log, the start was intended to be the rock as shown by the clue. Just erred in placing the start/finish marks.
George, bottom line is it was a great day, being able to go orienteering at Sessions, seeing a few old friends. Thanks so much to the two of you for making it possible.
And the opportunity to tease Phil was just a bonus. Excellent all around.
