Trying to decide if the kids, wife, etc will come and such...what are the color codes for these? Red, Orange, yellow, etc?
"Long" is 5.2 km, "green" length and difficulty. Lots of trails, but definitely some route choice and off-trail navigation.
"Middle" is 3.5 km, solidly "orange" and again, when I was setting them up to print, I saw a few legs where I thought "hmmm-interesting". (I don't think that "brown" runners will be disappointed.)
"Short" is 1.7 km, white level but still a bit of route choice.
For the "long" and "middle", there are two variations of each course, an "orienteers" course and a "runners" course. The runner's variation is the same length as the "orienteers" course, some of the same controls and some different, but is essentially a trail run with route choice and all points on or near trails. For navigational challenge, you definitely will choose the orienteers course, but if you want to bring a runner who wants white level but more distance, the runners courses will be perfect.
All maps are 1:5000. Both long maps and the runner's middle are on legal size paper (8.5 x 14). The orienteer's middle and the short are on letter size (8.5 x 11). All maps include a legend; the control descriptions on the orienteer's long map obscure just a few standard vegetation symbols at the bottom of the legend.
Thanks for a great event! Very fun Sprint/X-country mix and a few intriguing traps / puzzles along the way. Thanks to everyone who helped organize this great event.
