Hi Boris,
Any chance you have played the board game Cartographers? I know you play a lot of board games so was keen to get a review of it from a fellow orienteer. If you haven't played it do you know of any orienteers that have?

yeah i saw those reviews but it looked a little lame
but it isn’t that expensive so i might buy it though i still haven’t played Pandemic legacy after owning it for 2+ years and now seems to be an appropriate time to play

Pandemic legacy is very good if you have a consistent group to play with. I definitely recommend trying it, especially if there are three of you hanging out right now.

I haven't looked at this yet & I've never heard of it before but anything about cartographers has got to be good. :-)

I've played both Cartographers and Pandemic Legacy Season 1 with my wife and the same pair of friends (who happen to both regularly orienteer).
I thought I would love Cartographers because of the name, but it's not really related to making maps... or navigation or efficient routing or anything that we like about orienteering. It's about fitting in shapes on a game board.
These friends of ours are *HUGE* into board games, so we've sampled several games with them. I much preferred Treasure Island as a map-based game (it's still not related to orienteering, but I enjoyed it more).
Pandemic Legacy Season 1 was amazing. Easily the best gaming experience I've had.

great thanks for the review Patrick. I’ll break open the Pandemic Legacy soon then.
i’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy of Parks. We played it in January just after our vacation to Zion but the game has been sold out in Canada ever since. If you like hiking and camping then Parks is a really fun game. I doubt a Canadian version will come out but it’s fun to learn about some US National parks we don’t know about.

We got my brother-in-law and his girlfriend Parks for Christmas. It was on their list, but we haven't played it with them. Our gaming friends have that one, too, and they enjoyed it.
I'm not super into board games, so my reviews probably aren't worth much. What's nice about out gaming friends is that they have hundreds of games that they play, and they've learned what sorts of games they like. So whenever we have a game night with them, they usually pick a game that we all like. Currently, we have a Zoom chat once every two weeks where we play a game that works over that format. In addition to the webcams for us and for them, they also set up a third channel on a tripod-mounted phone, pointed down at a game board, haha.
Yeah, I can't imagine a more perfect time to play PL1 than now. We played it in the "before" times, and we'd schedule a playdate (and backup, if we had failed the chapter the first time) once a month.
It's been a few years now, so I forget a lot of specifics. But if there's one piece of advice to give, it's to spend a lot of time in the phase *after* the board is set up (ie: which cities get drawn for disease cubes), but *before* you actually make your first move. Take a look at the board and see if there are certain strategies that make sense for that board (eg: which characters to use, which cities to start in, etc).
