Lyn went shopping this morning upon our return from our shortened ski trip of two weeks. Like you flour was all gone along with yeast. Other items like pastas were limited to two packets. Crazy. And now we’re getting cancellation calls for eye and dentist appointments.

Yes, the gun thing. I don't know what people think is going to happen, but it scares me to think that they need (a) gun(s) and ammo.

From what I can tell, it appears that people are afraid there will be looting.

Items are actually starting to reappear at my grocery store, which was fairly barren earlier this week. The paper products aisle was still empty, but there was plenty of most kinds of food.

I got an email the other day advertising emergency gun licenses. It totally undid me, thinking about the implications of that...

Society is generally fragile. Half-lives are relatively short.

Weaker societies (organisms) are more susceptible to disease/malaise. Irrational responses are symptomatic of weaker societies (though not restricted to them.)

China is a strong society; their superior response to this crisis is just additional evidence.

One day I hope to have better insights into whether the dynamics of markets are evidence of their relative “strength” or lack thereof.

Long ago, I was assigned to read "Lord of the Flies" in high school. My father saw the book laying around, and read it one day. I asked him what he thought it was all about. He said: "the veneer of civilization is very thin." Smart man.

I laughed out loud when one of my kids sent me the cartoon - likely now ubiquitous - of several dinosaurs buying toilet paper while the comet headed for them.

I had a kidney stone surgery cancelled Monday - only doing essential stuff. Feels essential to me. That and some cabin fever are about all that's happened here.
